Bonny Island Sand Soccer Tourney Kicks Off Dec. 18; League To Start In 2022

Plans are in top gear to commence a Sand Soccer League for the Bonny Island community next year but the second edition of it’s annual tournament will be held on December 18, 2021 at the Inland Sand Field.

According to Bonny Atlas, organizers of the Bonny Island Sand Soccer Tournament 2021, the tournament is a winner-takes-all format where the winning team will go home with a sum of N300,000.

Team Lead of Bonny Atlas, Rossphilips Irims reckons that “the vision is to see these guys picking much interest, either they are entering back into major football because of the level the tournament might be growing or into the National Sand Soccer Team and other sand soccer clubs around the world.”

As a result of the interest and excitement generated by the tournament, Bonny Atlas reckons that the natural progression is to start a league which would help to discover and nurture young aspiring footballers to greater heights and further boost the tourism potentials of the Bonny local government.

The tournament, according to it’s promoters, will significantly increase the traffic into Bonny Island and showcase the Island’s enormous sports tourism potentials.

With the league coming on stream next year, this will sustainably drive a significant amount of traffic into the island for years to come.

Bonny Atlas prides itself as one of the outstanding Social Enterprises which has in the past four years of its existence offered positive solutions to challenges faced by the Island and it has been of the Island with youth as a major target.

Bonny Atlas has secured partnerships with different organizations and business entities such as Nigeria LNG Limited (Sponsor), GOGE Africa and Kristina Reports (Official Media Partners), with support from FBI Photography, Bonny Island Tourism Hub (BITH) Moon Rentals, EL Stylish, Café 21, Bonny Aproko and endorsement from the Office of Bonny Constituency, Rivers State House of Assembly.
