Trainer Adam Booth says his fighter Josh Kelly would be happy to take on Conor Benn in an all-British welterweight battle. The iconic British trainer was in attendance on Friday night as Benn produced a destructive display to stop Jussi Koivula.
Benn showed his vulnerabilities as he was hit on a number of occasions but also demonstrated his concussive power to win in the second round. His victory comes just three weeks after Kelly drew with Ray Robinson at Madison Square Garden and British fans are licking their lips at the prospect of the pair meeting before the end of 2019.
When asked if their camp would be interested, Booth told Sky Sports: “Domestic rivalries and match-ups elevate British boxing to another level over and over again.
“What we have here is an exciting young prospect who doesn’t have the extensive amateur career, but is prepared to learn under the microscope, take the risk and have these wild dust-ups with good fighters. “In Josh Kelly you have someone with that amateur brain, someone with the skills and belief. We have the making of a sensational British match-up.”
