Brandt Missing For Bayern Clash

Lucien Favre has confirmed Julian Brandt has been ruled out of Borussia Dortmund’s DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich on Saturday. Germany international Brandt is one of six new arrivals at Dortmund this summer after the club decided to pay the 25million euros release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract.

The 23-year-old was hoping to feature in Saturday’s Supercup contest against the Bavarians but he has been ruled out of the game, having missed the 4-1 pre-season win against Swiss side St. Gallen with an adductor injury. Confirming the winger’s absence, Favre also revealed another new signing, Thorgan Hazard, looks unlikely to be available for selection because of an unspecified injury.

“He’s (Brandt) definitely out for Saturday,” he was quoted as saying by bvbbuzz.com. “We’re not taking any chances. Thorgan Hazard is better. He is running again, but he still feels something.” Goalkeeper Roman Burki, who has been with BVB since arriving from Freiburg in 2015, is also facing a battle to fit in time for the match.
