Bundesliga: Awoniyi Rushed To Hospital After Clash Of Heads In Mainz’s Home Loss To Augsburg

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi was taken to hospital following a clash of heads and nasty-looking fall in Mainz’s 1-0 home defeat to Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, Completesports.com reports.

Awoniyi who was in the starting eleven in his 12th Bundesliga appearance, lasted just 23 minutes in the game.

His place was eventually taken by Austrian international Karim Onisiwo.

Reports on Mainz’s verified Twitter handle states that Awoniyi was conscious and talking in the ambulance on his way to hospital.

Also in action was Noah-Joel Sarenren-Bazee who was on from the start before making way for Andre Hahn in the 62nd minute.

It was Sarenren-Bazee’s eight Bundesliga outing for Augsburg in the current campaign.

Florian Niederlechner was the hero for Augsburg as his goal in the first minute was enough to secure all three points for his side.

Going into the game Augsburg had failed to win their last three games.

For Mainz they have now lost their last three home games and have recorded just one win in their last five matches.

They sit in 15th position on 31 points and are three points above the relegation play-off spot.

While Augsburg are placed 13th on 35 points in the 18-team league table.

Get well soon, boy. And his replacement(Karim onisiwo) has Nigerian roots. Hmm…very interesting….

  • Noah Bazee: He did initiate a swift run and eloquently cut back which his colleague spurned. His awareness and craft in picking out the right player out of the options open to him hinted at a very technical player alive to team shape and positional discipline.

Granted, I did not see the entirety of the game but from that part only, his craft deserves a goal as he more or less put the ball on a plate for his colleague to bury.

    That, my friend, is impact.
