RB Leipzig started the match on the front foot, testing the Leverkusen defense early and forcing sharp saves from goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
The visitor thought they had broken the deadlock in the 34th minute when Christopher Nkunku put the ball in the net, but the goal was overturned following a VAR review.
Just as Leipzig looked to control the half, Leverkusen struck. In the 44th minute, Miguel Gutiérrez set up Patrik Schick, who clinically fired past the keeper to make it 1-0.

The goal marked Schick’s scoring streak, having found the net in each of the first four league matches. Leverkusen doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Miguel Gutiérrez capped off a stellar individual performance by scoring Leverkusen’s second goal.
Despite late pressure and higher possession stretches from Leipzig in the second half, Leverkusen’s backline held firm to secure their second win of the Bundesliga campaign and climb to 10th place in the standings.
