Asisat Oshoala is in the running for an historic sixth African Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
The Barcelona Femeni star top the list of 30 players shortlisted for the award by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF announced the list of the nominees on their official X handle on Tuesday.
Oshoala won the award last year,for a record fifth time. She is the only African female footballer to have achieve the feat.
The 29-year-old previously won the prestigious award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
Oshoala won the UEFA Women’s Champions League crown with Barcelona last season,for a second time.

The striker also had a decent outing for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
She scored once in four appearances for Nigeria at the tournament.
Her compatriots; Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Osinachi are also in contention for the individual accolade.
Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu are the other Super Falcons players nominated.
It would be recalled that CAF released the different categories for the Men’s Award two weeks ago.
Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen is up for the Men’s Player of the Year, while Gift Orban is in contention for the Young Player of the Year.
The 2023 CAF Awards Gala will be held in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, November 11, 2023.
