Brighton and Hove Albion came from 2-0 down to beat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday.
United raced into an early lead when academy product Shea Lacey scored on his first senior start in the 8th minute, then Mason Mount made it 2-0 just two minutes later.
Brighton responded just before half-time with Charalampos Kostoulas pulling one back in first-half stoppage time and in the second half the Seagulls overturned the deficit as Pascal Gross equalised in the 65th minute, before substitute Maxim De Cuyper scored the winner in the 69th minute.
The result marked the first time in 50 years that United had lost a home game after leading by two goals (the previous occasion was a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham in 1976). Also, it was United’s second consecutive early Carabao Cup exit.
In other third round fixtures played on Wednesday, Everton edged out Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0, Aston Villa beat struggling Coventry City 3-1 and Fleetwood Town defeat Sheffield United 1-0.
