Lookman joining super eagles attacking force will make us a feared team more than we are now

    • Well at @Greenturf I am sorry to say hearing you say that makes me Laugh as you are Number 1 in support of Rohr decision to invite Musa. well my dear brother the only passage for Lookman to the Super Eagles be it for Rohr to make his switch a Priority and for him to be invited is If Musa gets dropped. SO hence I always say Musa presence in the team and you guys supporting it at all cost IS COUNTER PRODUCTIVE> NOW YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN. Because out of Chukwueze, Kalu, Ejuke, Onyekuru, Iwobi and Musa who should get the Chop for Lookman?? I pose you this question.

      • Greenturf 3 years ago

Thanks @ Ugo Iwunze for the question put forward.
If you read my posts lately when it concerns Ahmed Musa,I have not been in support of his invitations just to have 100 caps which I think should be earned.Because he has not justified his last 5/6 invitations with his output yet his name do come first on the list lately when players names are made public.
And to answer your question, everyone you listed above are still part of the super eagles notwithstanding Lookmans availability.
Invites to our team will be based on the ones most in form because a player dropped today could be picked for the next game depends on form, improvement.

        • I agree but Musa is a no no! for now unless he carries his team who are not a big club in a Turkish League on Par with English Championship for that matter, anyway unless he leads them to the League title and proves he has at least more than 6 or 7 assists left in his legs and can score 10 goals in that league we know, any of our other wingers can hit Goals in I mean don’t forget Onyekuru scattered that League with Galatasaray.

My question is Simple Who will you drop for these players?.

These are the kind of Yardsticks or parameters a real Coach with out sentiments should place on his player who has lost form for so many years. At least make it a even playing field I said to you our players now play in the smae club. I.e Ekong, etebo and Dennis (Watford) and Ndidi, Iheanacho and Possibly Lookman(Godwilling) Leicester. Do you honestly think they can’t tell who deserves places and not??.

Rohr can only get away with his Musa invites for so long until eyebrows start getting raised due to Strong bonds being created at club level. a word is enough for the wise!!!

          • Okechukwu Johnson 3 years ago

Please has Ademola lookman commenced his change of nationality status any knowledge

          • Greenturf 3 years ago

My answer to your question,if all players(wingers) available and we are traveling to Cameroon I would pick this four which to me seems the best we have at the moment.
            Lookman,Kalu,Simon and Chukwueze.
Suppose Lookman is unavailable I would pick Ejuke in his place instead.

    • @Okechukwu Johnson. It is at a stage where someone needs to follow up be it Ademola Lookman or Rohr, Naturally it should be the coach now because this has been swept under the carpet for so long. It is now up to the Coach of SE to do his job like any normal coach and follow up with a phone call select him and take it from there that way FIFA will automatically bring the issue back up and follow it up. Lookman is moving up in his career and has now moved to ateam in England that is the best springboard to up your career path so he knows the England Manager is also on the lookout. It is a case of first come first serve now. which ever manager shows interest gets him.

That being said a Coach on Musa’s payroll who hasn’t received salary for Months would naturally not drop his bank now would he?? – THAT is your answer to where Lookman’s Allegiance switch is

Look Nigeria fights battles with Talented players of duel nationality that the other country are fighting for. which shouldn’t be the case because the only reason it is a tug of war is because the player is talented. trust me the players that aren’t sought after are the ones we get because the other country is not interested. Imagine Nigeria telling Bukayo Saka well he should call us if he wants to play for us?? a player with so much talent? that came from Pinnick. Well we will keep loosing the best Dual Nationality talents with that attitude trust me.

Yes fair enough 1 player is not bigger than a country but honestly what leg does Nigeria have to stand on with such a statement. Because I bet you Saka is not crying about 6 months unpaid wages. THIS COUNTRY IS A BIG JOKE!!

      • and Pinnick is the reason Nigeria started getting dumped by players with ability because he couldn’t keep his big mouth shut when he visited them to convince them.

SO out of the Frustrations of the botched Abrahams and Eze meetings the same frustrations he caused by not keeping his BIG MOUTH SHUT!!!!!!! he tells Saka to call Nigeria if he wants to play for Nigeria. talk about not taking accountability for your actions. In fact this Pinnick eh. I will say no further

  • Lookman has often shown himself to be a game changer with his dribbles, mazy runs and determined play. If he indeed becomes a Super Eagle it will be a great development and also a somewhat painful realisation that one of our current exciting wingers will have to make way for him if they are all fit.

Imagine having to pick any of Ejuke, Simon, Onyekuru, Iwuala,Marcus Abraham, Musa, Dennis, Okereke, Olayinka or Lookman to man the Super Eagles left wing.

Some names were dropped for laughs but seriously the possibilities open to the Super Eagles at this time are frightening.

Having Ademola Lookman come in to the fray would only make Rohr break the heart of another player that he would have to potentially drop to make way for Lookman. Will it be Musa, Simon or Iwuala? Iwuala will soon be nightmare in North Africa to defenders.

That is assuming he even picks Lookman after the completion of his international switch. After all, the NFF made it clear to these players that picking Nigeria does not guarantee that they will be picked by Gernot Rohr.

Some players who picked Nigeria are starting to be overlooked. Admittedly, they were picked earlier. Ola Aina missed the world cup ; Brian Idowu missed the Afcon, in fact his Super Eagles days might be behind him as he is not a fan-favourite and also no longer commands the attention of Rohr; Semi Ajayi is slowly moving down the pecking order of centre defenders or defensive midfielders whilst Viv Solomon Otabor has to move to a higher league and move mountains before he can move the impression of fans and the Super Eagles coaching crew. Cyriel Dessers is still waiting for his Super Eagles big moment whilst a favourite of mine Josh Maja is still trying to find his feet in club football.

My point is that Ademola Lookman might not have such a free pass even after becoming a Super Eagle. He is a super talent, a showstopper and a game-changer, a player after my heart. But the field is becoming crowdier by the day.

For me, the more the merrier. I do pray he becomes a Super Eagle. When that happens, he will have to come and fight for his place. Those already there aren’t doing such a bad job at the moment!

    • Abdul 3 years ago

Nice epistle. But if Lookman becomes a super eagle today, he will be part of the team for a relatively longer time. He’s a special kid, and I guess that is why he has been in the fray for a while now.

    • Footballfanatic 3 years ago

Viv Solomon?????? You can’t be serious

  • I don’t really like speculating about players who are yet to complete their switch of allegiance because you never really know what is up with theses players. Tomorrow, the English coach can say something like the player is in his plans and then the person will say he is focused on playing for England. So I always like to wait until the switch is finalized to avoid being disappointed.

But Lookman is a very good player and winger but we are stocked in that position. If his switch does go through then he will have to battle it out with top first choices in the Super Eagles such as Kalu, simon, ejuke and musa etc

It would seem that coach rohr rates Ejuke higher than Onyekuru now because he started ejuke ahead of onyekuru in the cape verde game. So if indeed the coach feels he needs lookman, then he will be ahead of players like iwuala, martins, onyekuru but its a tough choice.

Chukwueze,is also there although he has been out for a while now and when he eventually returns he will have to get back to match fitness, play games for his club so we can see if he is ready. But on a good day, chukwueze always starts for the Super Eagles when fit. So it depends on the coach who plays who gets call ups etc. But I feel when musa eventually retires from international football. Then lookman should take his place.

    • Footballfanatic 3 years ago

You guys are just pouring names…… Chukwueze cuts in from the right wing same for the guy that just joined fereinse. Musa’s days are numbered. Iwuala cannot be considered in place of a fit Ademola, Onyekuru, and Ejuke. Samuel Kalu in his right element is a great player but injury prone.

For a complete 23 man team for a competition this will be my list..

      Goalkeepers – Okoye
      Uzoho
Adeleye ( Have to start looking for a replacement for Akpeyi)

      Defenders – Ekong
      Balogun
      Aina
      Collins
      Zaidu
      Akpogunma/Awaziem
      Ebuehi/Shehu

      Midfielders -Aribo
      Iwobi
      Etebo
      Ndidi
      Frank

      Wingers – Chukwueze
      Ademola
      Samuel Kalu/Onyekuru
      Moses simon

      Forwards – Osimehn
      Awoniyi
      Iheanacho
      Onuachu

Three players will have to be bounced. Man what a time for the super eagles.

      • Footballfanatic 3 years ago

Shit! I forgot to add Ejuke. That one must make the list by force or fire lol. We need a dribbler.. Cyriel Dessers and Moffi

      • Chris 3 years ago

        I think you omitted Ejuke…

        • Ejuke must be there, I would also Omit Onuachu for the next games and try Emmanuel Dennis, he is brewing something special at Watford

Other than that the above is the strongest squad we can field..

          • If you look closly in a match Iheanacho and Dennis have similar structure and playing style so, we wouldn’t lose much quality in a Super Eagles game if for instance Kels is having a bad game on the day and Dennis replaces him. This makes more sense plus The quality Dennis is showing at Watford who are sitting in 11 or 12 in the log cannot be over looked, he also has Ekong and Etebo with him at Watford and, is playing well with one of Senegal’s star players Ismailiah Sar (They link up great) another added advantage if Nigeria were to meet Senegal. Not to mention England Over Belguim league any day. So bros anyway you look at it Dennis for me over Onuachu

  • Footballfanatic 3 years ago

Yeah that was a big error lol. After Musa gets his 100 caps I think it’ll be time to give way. He can still support the team as a non playing motivational individual.

    • From your list, I think the Super Eagles’ strongest 11 (if they are all in form) is:

      ————-Uzoho————-

      Aina – Ekong – Balogun – Sanusi

      ——–Ndidi – – – Aribo——-

      Kalu – – – Iwobi – – – – Simon

      ———–Osimhen ————

Diamonds are meant to be forever but apparently not so in football. I recall back in the days of Westerhof, our shape at times resembled the diamond 4-4-2 formation with 2 wingers (Finidi and Amuneke) providing width to a support striker (Amokachi) and a main striker (Yekini) who will be playing in front of a centre midfielder (Okocha) with a powerful defensive midfielder sitting (Oliseh) sitting in front of our able back four including Eguavoen, Okechukwu Nwanu (West) Emenalo (Ben the Bomber Iroha) . These days, modern managers have more or less abandoned this type of formation with most going for a lone front man.

Today, if such a formation was adopted, what would it look like?

      I think you will have

      – Okoye in goal

      – Ebuehi and Aina as the fullbacks sandwiching Balogun and Ekong

      – Undoubtedly Ndidi will indeed be the defensive midfield with Chukwueze and Samuel Kalu flying from the flanks and interchanging from left to right in the course of the game.

      – Iwobi would predictably reprise his uncle’s number 10 role in centre/attacking midfield.

Iheanacho will take the place of Amokachi while Osimhen would have to fill the mammoth boots left by the gone-but-never-forgotten Yekini.

It will be a very strong 4-4-2 outfit.

In the course of the game, substitutions will need to be made.

Aribo, Sanusi, Onyeka, Onuachu and Ejuke are the ones pencilled to come in but only 3 of them can.

This fictional exercise is lighthearted. Let me know what you think….

      • Footballfanatic 3 years ago

Fifa changed the rule to 5 substitutes bro…..lol

      • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

@deo nice line up and very insightful writeup. Suffice to say that Rohr has created enthusiasm among die hard SuperEagles fans and has created a team in comparison to Westerhoff’s iconic squad.

Attacking quality out wide was a key element of Nigeria’s Golden Generation, that’s why Amuneke and Finidi were two key elements of Clemens Westerhof’s iconic Nigeria side. Our wings today is the most competitive, although I’m yet to see the quality of Finidi and Amunike. Maybe only Chukwueze is currently close to Amunike, but I’m seeing the qualities of Babangida and Ikpeba. With the potential to fine tune them to the mold of Finidi and Amunike probably by the AFCON in Cameroon.

In Ejuke, Kalu, Simon, Musa, Onyekuru, Dennis, Chukwueze and Ademola(when his switch is finalized) we have 8 quality wingers fighting for 4 spots in a 23 man squad. Certainly Musa is guaranteed a spot as the captain and on merit because he’s playing regularly in Turkey. The remaining 3 spots is like flipping a coin IMHO. A fit Chukwueze will be in the team. But between Ejuke, Dennis, Simon, Onyekuru, Kalu and Lookman I trust Rohr to stick to the players he’s been working with unless there’s an extraordinary talent among the rest. It will be really interesting days ahead leading up to the AFCON.

  • 1. Nigeria is a great country and i love my country.
    2. Musa, bearing any injury, will go to the nations cup. Yes he has lost that steam. But off field he is still useful. Many off pitch factors help a team’s performance on the field. The unity in that team is their biggest strength. So to prepare the mind of some people who hate musa like the devil, you should be ready…he will be at the nations cup. It was like that with keshi at 1994. You need a figure that help you manage crisis off the pitch. With the erratic nff, you need Musa at the nations cup. You always see how ekong always show great respect when Musa is about to come in. Some people don’t understand that a lot of factors make a team do well in a competition. I hope you remember 2013, yobo was not that good again but keshi had him in the team. Rge crisis that came up during competition would have swallowed the team if an influential captain was not present.

    3. Another surprise: even if ademola switch happen before nations cup , he may not pick him for the nations cup. We already have quality. Players who are doing well in that position. Though I love the talent of ademola but we know what rohr is like. Except for injuries, ademola may have to wait for another competition. I won’t blame rohr If he does not pick him. You see coaches apart from their technical and managerial abilities, they also have individual philosophies which they hardly change. Mourinho, guardiola etc. They live and die with their philosophies. Rohr always trust those he has worked with.

    4. How can anyone dump onuachu from the nations cup team. On merit, he should be there. He is playing and scoring goals. The confidence is there. He is getting to understand the Nigerian team better now. With his form, he is sure for the nations cup.

    5. I only wish we have more cnahces to include two more strikers and i will pick sadiq and dessers.

    • @christian Ministries Nigeria, even though you always insult me indirectly i will still reply..

Bros Dennis is more experienced than Onuachu firstky Dennis has Good Uefa Champions League experience remember his wonderful performance against Real Madrid almost scoring a hatrick. Now he is proving that performance was no flash in the pan. He made it to England his own was not by mouth like some of the other players i will not mention I.e. Michael Babatunde who claimed he was sought after by big clubs after world cup 2014 only to end up in Libyan league at some point. Look its a no brainer Dennis his proving himself in England a league that is sooo Tough just look at Patson Daka at Leicester City how hard he is finding the transition. And the Austrain league is currently stronger than Belgium dont foget Haaaland also went to Dortmund from the same team as Daka in Austria.

My point is simple Dennis is Stronger than Onuachu and is more experienced than Onuachu. Forget the goals he is scoring at Belguim just look at Timo Werner, upon all the goals he scored in Austria he finding it difficult in England. Bros the English League is not Moi Moi. If a player cuts it in England, Germany, italy and Spain. Man they should be in The SE. Thats for real. Onuachu yes has proving he is talented but he is also showing he style doenst suit SE. And like I said earlier (including all the reason i gave above), Iheanacho and Dennis have a similar style of play and speed is similar Dennis might be a little faster though (Debatable) so it only makes sense( including his performances for Watford) that, he is selected for SE if he keeps scoring in the premier league from now until the Afcon. And i feel that we can drop Onuachu for the next qualifiers and give Dennis a call as we have already seen what Onuachu can give and, in all honesty we have Osimhen and Iheanacho now them two are already 4 players for some other teams.

Take it or leave it this makes sense

      • @Christian Ministries Nigeria you already know my views on Musa. And if you can leave out lookman for Musa… infact leave Onuachu for a sec

Dennis should be called up over Musa for this one because he is pacey enough to come in from the wings if needed but we covered on that side. Anyway yes Dennis over Musa for me.

Guy I have already made a point in the past that Whatever Musa can Bring from a motivational point of view Yobo can bring x2. So i dont see your point.

Please leave your sentiments at home when we are debating

      • My brother @iwunze I am not insulting you o. You’re my guy. My best on this forum..

  • Frank Opotoboruwe 3 years ago

Ahmed Musa is more mature than Ademola Lookman. Lookman is overrated sef.

  • Ademola Lookman is a delight to watch. He’s got admirable attributes of a winger with goal scoring touch to his game, which made him a fan favorite.
One thrilling aspect of his game is his shooting power from a distance, a technique that’s generally lacking among our wingers. He was at Fulham last season, where he unlocked his great potentials, scoring a number of goals and providing great assists too.
He surely would be a huge addition to the Super Eagles and an upgrade of the wingers in the team.

  • pompei 3 years ago

Deo, that’s a good line up. The only change I would make is regarding Aribo. That boy plays as a DM for us and does ok. But moving him into a more advanced position (AM or wings) will unleash the beast that lurks within.

My change to your line up would be to move Aribo up to join Iwobi.

    Okoye
    Aina, Ekong, Balogun, Sanusi
    Ndidi
    Kalu, Iwobi, Aribo, Simon/Ejuke
    Osimhen

A 4-1-4-1 system. My preference on the left wing is Ejuke, although Simon on his day is also a good pick.

Another system I love is the 3-4-3, which Tuchel has perfected. He used it successfully at PSG, won the Champions League last season with it at Chelsea, and is currently topping the premier league with it.

    My 3-4-3 selection would be:

    Okoye
    Akpoguma, Ekong, Balogun
    Aina, Ndidi, Iwobi, Sanusi
    Kalu, Osimhen, Ejuke

Quite a few exciting tactical possibilities!
