Celtic, Rangers In Transfer Battle For Ikpeazu

Celtic, Rangers In Transfer Battle For Ikpeazu

Celtic and Glasgow  Rangers are tracking Hearts’ Nigerian forward Uche Ikpeazu.

Ikpeazu, 24, played  in League Two last season with Cambridge United, where he scored 22 goals in 80 outings.

But the 6ft 3in hitman has impressed with his physicality north of the border since joining on a free in the summer.

He hit the winner in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hearts and has grabbed the attention of both Celtic and Rangers, while Hull are also keen.

Cardiff City are also interested but any move is dependent on which league they are playing in next season.

Should they drop back to the Championship, then a move is far more likely for the Harrow-born ace who started his career at Reading.

Ikpeazu extended his contract until 2022 last month so Hearts would be looking for around £1million for the burly forward.

The Londoner has only made 19 appearances this season due to a foot problem during the middle of the campaign.

That has restricted him to just one Premiership goal – but his impact in Scotland has been enough to attract the Glasgow pair.

News that Celtic and Rangers will go head-to-head for Ikpeazu comes after another bad-tempered derby on Sunday which

Alfredo Morelos sent off and Andy Halliday shown a red card following a post-game scuffle.

Neil Lennon’s side claimed a 2-1 win thanks to a late James Forest goal to go 13 points clear at the top.
