  • A technically gifted striker who hits the right notes for me. He answered the call to pick Nigeria ahead of England without hesitation at the young age of 21. But injuries and loss of form severely curtailed his Super Eagles career.

With his hat-trick today, I hope the now 25 year old sniper can continue rattling the back of the net as the season progresses to earn Super Eagles call-ups for World Cup qualifiers and perhaps Afcon qualifiers too.

The two headers and one volley goals from Maja today would have delighted many Super Eagles fans – these delighted me and as a huge Maja fan, I will continue to keep tabs of his performances.

  • On another note, after every Tom, Steve and Harve had been linked to the Super Eagles coaching role, it is now being reported that the process might be put on hold.

    It’s a shame.

    • @deo, you know we’ve got to be patient with these people. Hiring a coach is one of the toughest jobs in the world. The only thing that comes close are NASA scientists trying to plan for a space exploration with rocket science.

We should take it jejely and wayonly with them. Ko easi.

    • You know, the NFF gave all sort of excuses before reluctantly accepting Finidi’s resignation. They only demoted him. Had he stayed, he would definitely have been in charge for upcoming matches (perhaps that was the plan all along).

Finidi left the NFF in the lurch by wisely resigning to show that the problem is not always the coach, but more how football is being run in our country.

Finidi’s resignation was announced on 15 June – roughly 8 weeks now. Eight weeks for the NFF to announce a replacement. Even the Finidi has swiftly secured another job in that time.

It is truly a sad state of affairs.
