Alcaraz has been out of action since April 2026 due to severe tenosynovitis (inflammation) in his right wrist, an issue that occurred during the Barcelona Open.
The extended recovery period caused the seven-time Grand Slam champion to miss both major clay and grass-court events, including the defense of his Roland Garros title.
He is skipping the Canadian Open in Montreal to prioritize recovery but will enter the Cincinnati Masters, a tournament he also won the previous year.
Alcaraz is the reigning US Open champion. He needs Cincinnati to find match sharpness and regain his rhythm before the final Grand Slam of the year begins at Flushing Meadows in late August.
