Echiejile’s HJK Helsinki Debut Ends In Draw

Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile made his official debut for HJK Helsinki in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at home to HIFK in a Finnish League game reports Completesports.com.

The draw was the third for HJK Helsinki this season after five games.

The Nigerian international who joined HJK on a free transfer in January with an option to extend for another year, had been without a club since leaving French club Monaco last summer played for 70 minutes before he was replaced by Ivan Tarasov.
Akseli Pelvas shot the hosts into the lead in the 49th minute but Tiquinho drew HIJK earned a share of the spoil in the 65th minute.
HJK will face Inter Turku in their next game on Monday.
Echiejile’s team, HJK leads the league standings with nine points after five games.
The 31 year old previously featured for Stade Rennes, SC Braga, AS Monaco, Cercles Brugge, Standard Liege, Sporting Gijon and Sivasspor.
He was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia though he didn’t feature in any game as the team crashed out in the group stages

A former youth international, Elderson has been capped 60 times by Nigeria and won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles.

He played at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was an unused substitute at last year’s tournament in Russia.
