Edel FC, a second tier domestic league side, has confirmed they have put on hold their earlier plan to relocate to Enugu for their 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign, Completesports.com reports.
The Phinan Ozonweke side had been playing their NNL home matches at the Awka City Stadium. But soon after the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season, it emerged that the club would relocate to Enugu as base for the 2026/2027 season.
But on Wednesday, 29 July, 2026, Mike Chukwuebuka, Team Manager of the side, exclusively informed Completesports.com that they have put on hold their earlier plan to move to Enugu.

“For now, we’ve put on hold all plans to move to Enugu”, the young club boss said. “We’re going to play (the next season) here in Awka,” he added.
Although he did not give reasons for the change in plan.
Completesports.com gathered that the unavailability of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, for football related events as a result of the ongoing renovation work could be reason Edel FC discarded the Coal City shift plan.
However, Chukwuebuka informed that Edel FC will commence preparation ahead the new season on Monday, 3 August, 2026.
“The team will regroup on Monday, August 3, when they will start preparation for the new season,” he said.
Edel FC finished 6th on the Conference A table with 20 points to retain their NNL position.
