EPL: Aribo In Action, Onuachu Missing As Brighton Defeat Southampton

Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo was in action as Brighton defeated Southampton 3-1 in Sunday’s Premier League game.

The Nigerian international, who was making his 21 appearance, has netted two goals this season.

Aribo was substituted in the 71st minute for Kamal-Deen Sulemana.

His Nigerian compatriot, Paul Onuachu was missing in action for the game.

Onuachu is yet to score a goal in the Premier League since joining the Saints in January from Genk.

Brighton took the lead through Ferguson, who collected Alexis Mac Allister’s pass at the edge of the area and fired home his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign with a low strike that went straight through McCarthy.

Ferguson’s second was the result of some fine work from Mitoma to challenge Romeo Lavia for the ball at the halfway line, with officials dismissing the midfielder’s protests as he tumbled to the ground.

Southampton pulled one back in the 58th minute when Elyounoussi headed James Ward-Prowse’s corner. Suddenly, it seemed like everything was unravelling for Albion.

Moments later Gross extended the hosts’ advantage, picking up the ball – which had bounced in his direction from an aerial challenge – and took his time before firing in his 26th Premier League goal for Brighton, drawing him level with Glenn Murray and Neal Maupay for the club record.

It is only a corrupt and unserious country that will still be inviting strikers from a division one league when you have hot strikers from clubs playing in top division all over Europe.

The Southampton coach actually opted to start Aribo in the number 9 role ahead of Onuachu. Wooow!
That will not be good for Onuachu’s confidence at all.
As for Aribo, can you believe this was the same player that scored a goal against Brazil under Rohr. Makes Rohr look like a genius, when you consider what he was able to achieve with these players.
Now, Aribo and Onuachu can look forward to Championship football next season. Incredible to think that Aribo played a European cup final with Rangers just last season, and Onuachu was in great demand due to his goal scoring exploits with Genk last season as well. How the tables have turned! By moving away from their former clubs, their careers have nose-dived.
Brighton have now qualified for European football. Incredible achievement, considering the competition they had for that 6th spot on the table. Graham Potter could have been the coach to lead them to this historic feat, but he went in search of greener grass at Chelsea, and instead walked right into a thorny bush. Now he’s unemployed, and his replacement De Zerbi gets to lead Brighton into Europe.
A tough lesson for Aribo, Onuachu and Potter. A wrong career move can be very costly indeed.
