Euro 2020: Netherlands Cruise Past Austria Into Knockout Round

Goals in each half from Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries saw Netherlands beat Austria 2-0 at the Amsterdam ArenA to book their place in the last 16 of Euro 2020 as Group C winners.

Both teams went into the game knowing a second win in Group C would send them into the knockout phase of the tournament.

The Dutch took an early lead from a penalty, given after the intervention of the VAR who spotted that Austria captain David Alaba had caught Dumfries in the box, with Depay converting from the spot.

Dumfries made it 2-0 midway through the second half with a simple close-range finish off a counter.

The NeNetherlands have joined both Italy and Belgium in the knockout phase having won Group C with a match to spare.

Austria can join them with a win against Ukraine in their final game on Monday.

  • Thank God this calamity alaba did not play bfor us.

    • Calamity?, Alaba is the greatest and most decorated Austrian player of all time. In fact his is currently one of the most talented players in Europe (as he can play across the defense and midfield). Alaba is the heart and soul of the Austrian national team. There is a reason he is wearing the captain’s armband.
If there is one player that Nigeria regret not having within its SE setup, that player is Alaba.
You don’t go from Bayern munich to Real Madrid if you are a calamity or do you?
And bayern munich will not offer you €15 million a year to stay.

Brodaman @ Christian Ministries Nigerian, How could you please say such? That boy could have positively defined Nigeria football in another enviable sphere had he played for the SE. He was playing about 3 roles yesterday for a much much less talented Austrian team. I think he deserves some commendations
