Exclusive: 2022 W’Cup Playoff: Super Eagles List For Ghana Clash Excites Akpoborie

Former Nigerian striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has lauded the interim coach of the Super Eagles, Austine Eguavoen for the squad list that will confront the Black Stars of Ghana in the 2022 World Cup playoff.

Recall that Eguavoen handed debut call-ups to Leicester City ace Lookman Ademola and former U17 star Akinkunmi Amoo in his provisional 32-man squad to face Ghana in their 2022 World Cup playoff clash later this month.

Nigeria is expected to face Ghana on March 25 before the reverse fixture at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium on 29 March.

The winner over the two legs will qualify for the World Cup to be played in Qatar later this year.

Reacting to the list of invited Super Eagles players for the encounter, the former Wolfsburg star told Completesports.com that he’s excited with the list and believed they will conquer Ghana.

“I am really excited with the list of invited players for the 2022 World Cup playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana. I am also delighted with the invitations of few fresh faces in the team and I think the selection of players has been spot on for Eguavoen.

“This clearly shows the coaches vision and plan for the game against Ghana and I am so happy with the first move with the list. I expect the team to qualify ahead of Ghana regardless of their antics against us.”

Which Amuneke? You mean the one sacked by Tanzania national side for poor performance?

    • Saturday 2 years ago

It is also possible amuneke tactics were terrible in Misr El-Makkasa, an Egyptian club side where he was booted out. @Damian, the guy enjoys exposing/fooling Amuneke online.

LMFAO! Tell Eguavon to go and coach a non footballing nation like Tanzania na if it easy.

Let’s see if he will not be stoned to death after just one game.. LMFAO!

  • Gabriel 2 years ago

Amuneke has no good record with any national team, that’s why his case is sad.

Akpoborie has my support that we have a good list. However, coach Eguavoen shouldn’t start Okoye and Ndidi if we are keen on winning the match. Ndidi could be introduced in the 2nd half if Amoo hasn’t done well.

    • You are Obviously not a fit Football Analyst/Speculator, I am very positive you would make a very ‘useless’ coach even if a primary school team is assigned to you…
I should probably call you a soccer Scumbag.
This is not your Cup of tea.

Oooh, poor you noticed. I hoped you would! Is it hot in here, right?

          • Gabriel 2 years ago

There was no time I said I want to be a coach self. Fit spectator….ha ha ha

  • I DEY SHAME 2 years ago

BEFORE OUR INDIGENOUS COACHES USED TO COMPLAINED THAT GERNOT ROHR DOESN’T INVITE HOMEBASE PLAYERS FOR SUPER EAGLE MATCHES. NOW THEY ARE IN CHARGE, WHY CAN THEY INVITE LIKE TEN PLAYERS FROM LOCAL LEAGUE TO PROSECUTE THE CRUCIAL MATCH AGAINST GHANA. OR ARE THEY NOT UP TO TASK.
    ***I DEY LAUGH OOO!!!!
*** WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE DECEIVING OURSELVES CONCERNING HOMEBASE PLAYERS**”

  • Exactly @I DEY SHAME very surprised non of them make case for home base players inclusion again. can’t even remember how many local league matches Eguavon has watched since all these days. Same way they couldn’t say anything about the Awoniyi who has been banished to reserve list. thought they said he is the highest scoring Nigeria striker playing in top 5 league? Isn’t one of the thing they nailed the former gaffer on? Well, we wait to see the excuse they will give now that Egu and his crew having enough ample time to prepare. Good luck to them though.

I hope Eguavon will allow Amunike to contribute his ideas. He is tactically sound than Eguavon.

  • pompei 2 years ago

Good to see Akin Amoo in the list.
He’s like a left footed Henry Nwosu. Same height, same build, same explosive talent.
He just might be the long term solution to our AM problem.

@Monkey Post. I want to ask you one question bro and I’ll really appreciate an honest answer. You always insult, abuse and talk down on Eguavoen, why the hatred? Why do you hate the guy so much? Has he ever stolen from you? Has be ever committed fraud? What’s his crime?? How come he’s dumb, have you ever met him, spoken with him, to come to thag conclusion? I think you should quit the hate bro. The man probably doesn’t know who you are and is going about doing his business while you just keep hating. Bro, you no need am. You’re a tu doing yourself too much harm than good by hating a person for nothing. The guy fit dey somewhere now dey drink beer, you dey hate am everyday. In all honesty, what you do think your hate will do to him? Na you the hate go harm pass oh. Calm down bro. I weak oo! Smh. I know say you go abuse my mama and papa join for this one, but I’m waiting for all your insults. Lol

All this noise about amuneke doesn’t have what it takes to coach the national team. Please is it not what you have you work with. Your so called Rorh that coached Niger and burkina faso, how far did he go with them. Tanzania doesn’t parade the kinds of the stars that we have. They don’t boast of much professional players like Nigeria. So why fault the poor man. And those saying he didn’t perform well in Egypt, if the team was that good, why was his replacement also replaced some few months later. Abeg make una go rest. He will surely deliver

    • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

chai! Oil dey your head @KENNET You deserve a bottle of hot bear for this your comment. LMFAO!!

      • God bless you Monkey Post. this is my first time of supporting you for your comments on this page.

I sometimes wonder if Amuneke’s failure is the reason why everyone is attacking him. These Nigerians seem not to realize that there is room for improvement. I think coach Eguavoen’s list is ok.

  • ABIODUN AYODEJI 2 years ago

@Kenneth, you nailed it hard, God bless you for that your comment. Your head get correct oil. Thank so much.

Please apart from hescore where else can we watch life matches?

  • Lance Damute 2 years ago

Why not? The Eguavoen list is in order. And concerning Amuneke, being a serial failure going by available facts online. I can understand why the few are struggling to defend Amuneke. As much as he has swallowed his vommit, please let’s support him. I wish he is able to win a laurel with the Cerezo led Super Eagles to clear the misgivings. Always remember is Nigeria first.

No wonder the clown of a coach failed in Cameroon.

Ighalo, Sodiq and Musa ahead of Awoniyi??? Onazi, a second division player in a lowly Saudi League on standby but no Innocent Bonke, Nwobodo, Dele Bashiru or Alhassan Yusuf???

Injuries have taken their tolls on OGENYI ONAZI. Awoniyi started 3 matches for SE; scored 1 and provided 1 assist and he’s placed on standby?

Please how many goals did IGHALO score in his first 10 matches for NIGERIA?

@DE STAR and @LARRY always echo it; EGUAVOEN is an upgrade on ROHR but a YES MAN with no life of his own. Its obvious he allowed some unseen hands smuggle in unfit ETEBO, out of sorts AKPEYI, ONAZI, Saudi oil money IGHALO etc!

I like ETEBO and NDIDi as double pivots when fit but this guy hasnt played for about 6 months and you sacrificed a BONKE for him? Since we have good wing players and fast strikers, why not play 2 holding midfielders (NDIDI/BOMKE or NDIDI/ONYEKA with Aribo playing AM? He wants to repeat the AFCON MISTAKE of playing ARIBO as a Double Pivot a role the guy obviously doesnt excel in!

Anyways, I wish the team well.
