Exclusive: 2023 U-20 WC: Dominican Republic Game May Determine Flying Eagles Fate In Group D –Rufai

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has revealed that the Flying Eagles’ opening game against Dominican Republic could determine the fate of the team in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Recall that Nigeria have been drawn against five time champions Brazil, Italy and Dominican Republic in what has been described as the group of ‘Death’.

The Flying Eagles must dig their feet in order to scale through the group phase in this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup competition

However, in a chat with Completesports.com, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner said that the number of goals scored against Dominican Republic may decide the standing of the team in the group.

“This is a game that could potentially determine the fate of the Flying Eagles if they are to qualify from the group. The Nigerian players must know that the number of goals they score against this team may end up deciding their standing in the group.

“Remember that Nigeria will face Italy and Brazil next after playing Dominican Republic. And these two teams will also be looking at using Dominican Republic to get points and goals as well.

“So the Flying Eagles must get it right in their opening match if they are to qualify from the group.”
