Exclusive: ‘Okoye Should Seek Loan Move Away From Watford Like Troost-Ekong’ –Babangida

Former Nigerian winger, Tijani Babangida has advised Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye to follow in the footstep of William Troost-Ekong by seeking a loan move away from Watford this winter transfer window.

The shot-stopper, who has been capped 16 times at international level by Nigeria, has not yet made a single Championship appearance for Watford this season.

Though he has made one appearance for the Hornets this term, in the EFL Cup against MK Dons.

Recall that Troost-Ekong on Tuesday joined Serie A side, Salernitana from Watford on a loan move.

In a chat with Completesports.com, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist stated that Okoye should take the bold decision of moving on loan to another club where he will be playing regularly.

He advised the former Rotterdam goalkeeper to follow in the footsteps of Troost-Ekong in a bid to make himself relevant in the Super Eagles.

“I really expected Okoye to seek for a loan move away from Watford considering the fact that he has been left too long on the bench in the team.

“If you ask me, seeking a loan move will help his career and also make him to be relevant in the Super Eagles.

“I just don’t feel too happy that a goalkeeper of his quality is been kept on the bench at Watford. He should make a bold decision and follow in Troost-Ekong’s footstep.:”

Seems English teams are becoming a death trap for Nigerian players for whatever reasons I don’t know. Imagine how Rogers at Leicester is treating Iheanacho and Ndidi. The ordeals Etebo passed through at Stroke is still fresh in living memory. How about Joe Aribo ? The list is endless. Granted , players like Mikel,KANU , Yakubu and Celestine as well Okocha did very well in the premiership years back. Now the time and tides have changed against Nigeria so its time for S.E players to think twice before moving to England as its seems like the colonial masters are nursing a secret grudge against Naija players playing for the SE.

  • In the case of goalkeepers, except you are exceptionally good, it is not so easy to
displace already existing ones in any club.
