Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu says fans and media doesn’t see anything good in a player that doesn’t play in a top league.
He made this known on the backdrop of criticism that greeted the invitation of Ogenyi Onazi to the Super Eagles for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Ogu, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that won bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, stated via his official twitter handle that fans and media must learn to appreciate players that they are playing in the lower leagues.
He said that himself and Anthony Nwakaeme have falling victims to this in the senior national team.
“On this particular topic, you would pity me, if I tell you about my experience.
“I and Nwakeame are victims of this as well.
“Once you don’t play in the top league or a solid side, some set of fans or media will label you average and will never see anything good you do.”

That’s true na
When you talk paper TIGERS, CSN bullies who are not known outside this forum will come baying for blood! Not that they too have reached the Zenith of their chosen careers or professions, yet they come here spilling rubbish! A lot go into what it takes to become what everyone aspires to be. More than anything else, DESTINY plays the biggest role. RICARDO QUARESMA was more talented and skillful than CR7 but never attained his heights. ERIC CANTONA was aa supremely gifted artist but never played in a WORLD CUP! ARIEL ORTEGA was incredibly gifted but never had a successful club career, ditto the TREQUATISTA that was DIEGO the little Brazilian magician. HENRY NWOSU for all his soccer brilliance NEVER played in Europe. Ditto FRIDAY EKPO. PAVEL MORRISON was the best academy graduate of his era in MAN UTD but is nowhere to be found today. TSRIBO WEST never had the grace ans finese of UCHE OKECHUKWU but played for the two MILAN giants whilst FERNABAHCE was the biggest club the latter played for.
As prolific and skillful as JULIUS AGHAHOWA was he couldn’t cut his teeth with ordinary WIGAN where the static YAKUBU AIYEGBENI struff his stuff for MIDDLESBROUGH, BLACKBURN ROVERS, EVERTON etc!
Where ISAAC OKORONKWO was stuck with SPARTAK MOSCOW a less talented JOSEPH ENEKHARIRE was playing for BENFICA!
I pray always that whetever it is we are doing, ALLAH should grant us HIS mercy so that luck can always shine.
It’s not easy making it as a footballer lr as anything in life without DESTINY being favourable to you. WESTERHOFF used to say the late THOMPSON OLIHA was always one of the best during trainings thereby considering him ahead of EGUAVOEN at DM for years yet the former never managed the latter’s success in the game.
For a better understanding, Vincent Aboubacar, the highest goal scorer in Afcon21 didn’t come from Liverpool, Madrid or Bayern Munich. He plays for Al-Nassr of Saudi league. Even our own Odion Ighalo was playing for Shanghai Shenhua F.C when he won the golden boot in Afcon19. So it remains inconsequential whichever club a player plays. What I believe is important is the current form of a player and in the case of Ogenzi Onazi, has he being training with his colleagues, playing regular time or is he just a bench warmer?
Very valid poser @BOB MARTINS! In the case of OGENZI ONAZI (no doubt a great player at his peak), there is no justifiable reason to invite him considering that he is currently warming the bench at a second division team in Saudi Arabia! It would have been excused should his position being one where there is less competition in SE and where he is the best or one of the best which is the ONLY tenable excuse for inviting IGHALO…all other strikers; bar OSIMHEN are new to the team and no proper time for gelling and all that before the mouth watering, winner-takes-all DOUBLE header against the Black Stars!
But ogu are you not even below average ?
Because he critized ur principal’s terrible administrations
