FIBA Throws D’Tigress Out Of 2022 World Cup After FG’s Withdrawal

The world governing body for basketball, FIBA, has replaced Nigeria’s female basketball team, the D’Tigress, with Mali for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Belgrade.

Nigeria was disqualified after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the country from participating in all international basketball competitions and activities for a period of two years.

The President’s withdrawal is said to be aimed at revamping the sports from the grassroots in Nigeria.

“FIBA was informed about the decision of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to withdraw the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) from all international basketball competitions and activities for a period of two years,” a statement from FIBA said.

“In subsequent communications with the NBBF, and despite FIBA’s request, it has become clear that against the circumstances created by the government’s decision, the NBBF is unable to confirm its participation in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.

“Given the multiple strict deadlines that cannot be postponed in order to ensure the successful staging of a major international event (visa procedures, schedules, ticket sales, accommodations, friendly games, preliminary rosters, flight tickets, accreditations, etc.) and to protect the integrity of the competition, the FIBA Executive Committee has decided as follows:

“Nigeria’s withdrawal from the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 is confirmed. Mali, as the next ranked team from Group B of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, is invited to participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.

“FIBA will announce whether there will be any other decisions related to the NBBF’s participation in other FIBA competitions and any potential disciplinary measures in due course.”

This is rubbish!!! What kind of leadership do we have in this country? These girls gave their best to qualify and now this? Wow!

  • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

Very spiteful bastards. The sports minister did this because those girls disgraced the nbbf and sports ministry of misappropriation of the funds entitled to them. If you want to build the sports from the grassroots….1 years is too small. This is just some bs. They’ve stolen the money meant for camping and participation and diverted it for electioneering purposes. Evil bastards. These girls played like they wanted to die for Nigeria in the last game against Mali and they did this when we have the best female basketball team ever paraded by Nigeria. Sometimes I just want to disown this country but I can’t as this is my identity and I know the good things that can come out of Nigerians. Very baseless excuse

BUHARI WILL BE ALIVE WITH WORMS COMING OUT OF ALL CREVICES IN HIS BODY INCLUDING ANUS… Such a wicked man, the buck stops at his table. Nigeria is a nation of wicked who maniacs… anyone still hoping that country will be good should prepare to go and report to God in heaven… What bunch of soulless leaders…

Exactly Jimmy, but what kind of Country doesn’t allow freedom of speech in this new world? USWNT just got a motion signed on for rights to equal pay and this Nama led Naija leaders will rather hurt the girls for speaking out when ill treated. Nigeria is fast becoming a Joke. No wonder those clowns started engulfing our page lately.

How can you aim to revamp something that is the best in the continent and leave football that has brought us shame of late to thrive with their continuous mischief. Illiteracy is a serious disease but wait for a second this is not illiteracy but wickedness. Because the one that failed is left to live and the one that has qualified for World Cup and defeated Heavyweights is disbanded with this stupid excuse of revamp. I will make a personal petition on this through the appropriate authority. Nigeria needs help this is doom. How I loved watching this team and this savages turns out to be KillJoy!!!

  • The best basketballing country in Africa in the last 2 years wants to revamp to become what exactly? The best in the world after the 2 years forced hiatus? What an idiotic and self-deceptive lie from stupendously bloated and cocky Sunday Dare and the weightless, wicked and unthinking Bubu in Aso Rock.

Lying through their brown, unbrushed teeth in broad day light!!!?? Just these 2 guys felt they could meet and solely decide the careers of super talented girls and deny Nigerians fans of he joy of watching them? Chai! What a country!! Abeg, is it possible for Buhari to end his tenure before May next year and go. That time is starting to feel like 10 years away to me. He’s been a calamity in sport, economics, security, everything. In fact, calamity is an understatement!

A country where success is severely punished, and failure is tolerated and even justified.
Rohr was sacked even though he met all his targets. Now the best female basketball team to ever come out of Africa is being denied a world cup ticket they worked for!
    What are they revamping?
That was how the government pulled Nigeria out of the 1996 Afcon, which led to us being banned from the 1998 edition as well. We had the strongest team in the continent back then, and would likely have won both Afcon trophies if we had participated!
Now, history is repeating itself. The baby is being thrown out of the window with the bathwater. Is cutting off a person’s head an acceptable cure for a headache?
    NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE!!!
