Foakes Admits Axe May Fall

Ben Foakes admits he might be jettisoned from the side for the second Test after England’s disaster against West Indies in Barbados.

The 25-year-old wicket-keeper has enjoyed a superb start to his five-day career, averaging 47.33 from four matches after scoring a century on his debut against Sri Lanka last year.

On current form, it is unlikely that he will be dropped but the Three Lions also possess Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler in their ranks – both accomplished glove men – and so something might have to give in order to balance the side after losing by 381 runs in the series opener.

Stuart Broad is certain to come in after the mistake of leaving him out at Bridgetown and Foakes, while eager to play, would be behind any decision that was made for the good of the team after failing last time out.

He said: “I didn’t perform last game, so I can’t sit there and say “Why did you drop me?” I did really well in Sri Lanka and I completely want to play the next game.

“But we lost by 300 odd runs and if a change is needed, a change is needed. “I’m just preparing for the next game. If I get the nod, I get the nod. If not, then good luck to whoever does.”
