Belgian club KAA Gent have congratulated their former Nigerian player Moses Simon, who won the French Cup with Nantes on Saturday night.
Simon was in action as Nantes won a first French Cup title since 2000, after edging Nice 1-0 thanks to a Ludovic Blas’ 47th minute penalty.
The Super Eagles winger was later replaced in the 73rd minute by Osman Bukari.
And Gent, who also congratulated another of their former player Kalifa Coulibaly, wrote on Twitter:”Congratulations @Simon27Moses and Kalifa Coulibaly on winning the Coupe de France tonight! 🏆 See you in the @europaleague next year! 😉”
Simon played for Gent from 2015 to 2018 and scored 16 goals in 76 appearances.
He has now won his third major trophy in his career after picking up the Belgian Pro League and Super Cup both in 2015.
The 26-year-old has scored six goals, provided eight assists in 33 games in all competitions this season.
Saturday’s win was Nantes’ fourth French Cup title after also clinching it in 1979, 1990 and 2000.
Also, Saturday’s match was the first French Cup final since 2014 to not feature Paris St-Germain, who Nice beat on penalties in the last 16 in January.
The 2021–22 French Cup was the 105th season of the main football cup competition of France.
The competition was organised by the French Football Federation (FFF) and was open to all clubs in French football, as well as clubs from the overseas departments and territories (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Réunion, Saint Martin, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon).
Meanwhile, Simon and his teammates will meet Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe when Nantes clash with Ligue 1 champions PSG in the French Super Cup in July.
Nantes will return to league action when they host Rennes on Wednesday 11 May.
They currently occupy ninth place on 51 points in the league table with three games left to play.
