Team Nigeria’s Abduljabar Adama booked his place in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with an impressive performance in the heats, Completesports.com reports.
The Nigerian national record holder clocked 22.67 seconds to finish third in his heat and secure qualification for the last four.
Australia’s Flynn Southam won the heat in 22.03 seconds, while England’s Jacob Mills placed second with a time of 22.40 seconds.

It was a less successful outing for fellow Nigerian Clinton Opute, who finished sixth in his heat in 23.15 seconds.
Opute, however, remains the second reserve for the semi-finals, and could still earn a place if any of the qualified swimmers withdraw.
Adama’s qualification adds to an encouraging start for Team Nigeria at the Glasgow Games.
The country enjoyed a memorable opening day, collecting six medals—three gold and three silver—all in para powerlifting, to sit among the early leaders on the medal table.
