The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected an ethics complaint filed against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, ruling that the allegations fall outside its jurisdiction.
The complaint, brought by the human rights group FairSquare, centered on claims that Infantino breached political neutrality rules regarding U.S. President Donald Trump, including a disputed World Cup red-card reprieve for U.S. striker Folarin Balogun and a FIFA peace prize awarded to Trump.

The IOC Ethics Commission stated that the matter deals strictly with FIFA’s internal governance, management, and sport rule implementation.
In a statement issued on Friday, the IOC confirmed that no formal investigatory or disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against Infantino over the claims.
The IOC explained, “The complaint primarily addresses the operations and management of an international sports federation, its relationship with governments, and decisions regarding the application of competition regulations—matters that are not covered by the IOC Code of Ethics.”
The decision came a day after it was revealed that the Norwegian Football Association is considering filing an official complaint with the FIFA Ethics Commission over the deferral of Balogun’s suspension.
Recall that in February this year, the IOC also dismissed an earlier controversy regarding Infantino’s attendance at the first meeting of the Board of Peace convened by Trump, where he wore a red cap emblazoned with “USA” and “45-47” — a reference to Trump’s two terms in office.

“The IOC has been in contact with FIFA,” an IOC spokesperson told AFP in February.
“We understand that FIFA is supporting, through football, a comprehensive sport recovery investment programme in Gaza, Palestine, by providing sporting infrastructure, education and elite development proposals.
“This is entirely in keeping with the role of an International Sport Federation. The IOC, through Olympic Solidarity, which is our development vehicle, has been and continues to support sport development in the region.”
