Tobi Amusan has attributed her failure to retain the women’s 100m hurdles title at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games to an injury setback.
The world record holder clocked 12.60 seconds to finish third in the women’s 100m hurdles final on Thursday night.
Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton stormed to gold with a winning time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons claimed silver in 12.41 seconds.
Amusan Rues Injury Setback
Amusan revealed after the race that a heavy fall in training left her uncertain about her condition going into the final.

“I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful i was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again,” Amusan revealed.
Coping With Tough Weather Conditions
Amusan also had to cope with the chilly conditions in Glasgow, revealing that she took extra precautions to safeguard her health.
“It was a little cold out there. I’m anemic, so I try to stay warm every opportunity I get. I did my best to make sure I kept myself warm before the race,”added Amusan.
“The last time I felt something, I just focused on preparing for the race instead of trying to make excuses.
“Honestly, with what I’m dealing with right now, I just want to go and get treatment, and then we’ll see what happens next.”

I was truly surprised that Tobi Amusan could not defend her Commonwealth title in the women’s 100m sprint hurdles. After posting a World best 12:19s in the semi-finals, the Gold medal seemed assured for Tobi, as non of the other 7 finalists in the contest posed any threat, including the eventual winner, Devynne Charlton of Bahamas, from the semi-final finishing times.
But as fate would have it, Tobi succumbed in the final, due to injury and possible cold conditions in the final and I agree with her excuse for not delivering what most of her fans, globally, thought was an assured 3rd title win in that event at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
