The Australian netball team faced heavy criticism and online discussion over short playing dresses that frequently rode up during matches at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Fans noticed that the Australian Diamonds playing dresses appeared very short and tight, causing players like Sophie Garbin to repeatedly pull down the fabric during games against Tonga and England.

However, star shooter Sophie Garbin brushed off the concerns, stating that constantly tugging at a netball dress is a familiar part of the sport and that it did not distract from their dominant on-court performance.
‘I feel like as a netballer, I’m always tugging my dress down,’ Garbin said.
‘Obviously, we’ve noticed lots of the comments from other people.
‘But I feel like on the court, we’re used to dresses coming up and down, and I don’t think it’s affecting our performance, so it’s okay.
‘We might have a look what we can do in the next couple of days but we love our dress.

‘We love what Valour have done with the pattern and the fabric and everything, so we’re really proud to wear it.’
They will now turn their attention to Malawi on Tuesday before taking on South Africa on Wednesday.
Australia then wrap up their group stage campaign against Northern Ireland on Thursday before a potential semi-final on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
