Ruth Usoro landed a season’s best of 6.77m (+0.6) on her very first attempt to qualify automatically for the women’s Long Jump final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday.
Usoro comfortably surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 6.70m to book her place in the final.
Also on Friday Team Nigeria’s mixed 4x400m quartet of Edidiong Udo, Esther Joseph, Samuel Ogazi and Patience Okon-George won their heat at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, clocking 3:14.58.
They set the debut mixed 4x400m Games Record, beating Australia and Jamaica who finished second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Shot Put gold medalist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has described the current Team Nigeria as the best since he started featuring for the country.
“This (current) Nigerian team is the best one I’ve been a part of since I started representing the country.
“There’s a lot of young blood, guys like: Ogazi, Ajayi. These guys bring a youthful exuberance, which motivates me, so being their captain, I knew I couldn’t fold,” Big Chuks said.
