Gomez Confident Of Stuttgart Survival

Mario Gomez is confident Stuttgart have enough quality to survive in the Bundesliga this season. Stuttgart enjoyed a successful seventh-place finish upon their return to the top-flight last season, but they have struggled to replicate that form this term, as they currently occupy the relegation playoff position and are a point adrift of safety.

Boss Markus Weinzierl has moved to improve his side’s chances of survival by signing Stev en Zuber and Alexander Esswein during the winter break and Gomez, who has netted five goals so far this season, believes the new recruits can help Stuttgart survive in the division. “I’m so looking forward to the second half of the season,” Gomez told Kicker. “With these two full-throttle players I’m 1,000 percent convinced we’ll stay up. “It’s not all about about me, any player who helps us fight for survival is welcome. They’ll be very motivated. From what I’ve seen, they’re full throttle, very strong and fast.”

Indeed, Gomez is convinced Stuttgart can beat nearly any side in the division on their day, with perhaps Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich being the only teams out of reach.

He added: “I respect every team in the league, but we can win every match except perhaps the ones against Bayern and Dortmund.”
