Heartland Involved In Fatal Accident; Players, Officials Injured

Heartland were involved in a ghastly road accident on Friday, Competesports.com reports.

According to a release by the Nigeria National League (NNL) club, the unfortunate incident occurred on the their way to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT pre-season tournament.

The accident occured at Umunna close to Okigwe in Imo state.

The driver in an attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle ran into another parked vehicle that was involved in another accident.

Though no death was recorded, some players and officials sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital.

The incident is expected to derail the team’s preparation for the new season.

Heartland were relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League last season.
