I’d Only Play Important Games -Ronaldo

Juve forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he is not getting any younger and would only take part in ‘important games’, like Champions League and Portugal matches if the choice were his to make.

The Portuguese star who’s renowned to be one of the world’s greatest goalscorer thinks it’s these games that set stars apart rather than the regular league fixtures claiming he would choose not to play in most of Juventus games so he would stay fresh to play in the Champions League and represent Portugal.

In an interview with France Football, he said: ‘If it were up to me, I’d only play important games,’ the former Manchester United forward said.

‘Those of the National team and the Champions League.

‘It’s these types of games that motivate me, those with everything at stake.

‘But you have to be professional and honour your family and the club who pay you.

‘You have to do your best every day.’

Ronaldo in the same interview talked about his physical condition as he enters the twilight of his career, he said: ‘The whole world is ageing. You can be healthy for a long time, but your body is experiencing a natural erosion against which you can do nothing about.

‘My goal is to stay young as you get older, so competitive. Give me a player of my age who performs as much as I do at my age at a team like Juventus? It’s very difficult, you know.’

“They say that I have an athlete’s body, but it’s not just the physical or the training. There is the lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, the choice of exercises that you do. About 70% of my life is devoted to football. You have to be smart to last. I call it the education of a footballer.’

Reflecting on his stay in Spain and rivalry with Lionel Messi, he admitted that the presence of the Argentine in the same league spurred him on.

‘A lot of people said that we fed each other, that being together in Spain made us better,’ he added.

‘That’s certainly true, I felt his presence more in Madrid than in Manchester.

‘It was a healthy rivalry. We were the symbols of our clubs. I think he said recently that he missed me on a competitive level.’
