“At the moment, I’m not actively involved in club or national team coaching, but I feel the urge to groom kids at the grassroots and teach them the basics of the game,” began Ikhana, a winner of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980 and the CAF Champions League with Enyimba in 2003.
“That’s the project that has kept me busy for some time now. I’m talking about players aged 8, 10, and 12.
“For now, I’m looking for about 60 players to start the academy properly. I must say I’ve already selected quite a sizeable number, and by the grace of God, the academy will commence fully in August.”
Ikhana has coached several top Nigerian clubs, including Enyimba, Sharks, and Kano Pillars, as well as the Nigeria U23 national team, otherwise known as the Olympic Eagles.

The former defender further hinted that his project is aimed at ‘catching them young’ and also giving back to society.
“I thought of giving back to society, and the best way I believe I can do this is by focusing on the foundational stage. It’s going to be challenging, but the earlier you guide them on the right career path, the better it is for both them and the society,” Ikhana explained.
