I’m Not Iwobi, I’ll Insult Your Parent If You Insult Me –Sadiq Warns Nigerians

Super Eagles striker, Umar Sadiq has issued a stern warning to Nigerians who attempt to insult him due to the team’s failure to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation.

Sadiq stated this on the backdrop of the cyber-attacks on Alex Iwobi after the final of the tournament, where the team lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast on Sunday.

As a result, Iwobi, who currently plays for Fulham in the Premier League, confirmed leaving social media after the AFCON final match following the bullying.

    Ride on boy.

A typical nigerian born and raised kid will not take that nonsense from vagabonds masquerading as fans, who think it is their right to rain curses on players and expect them to take it by the chin….something the hoodlums themselves cannot stomach

Uzoho gave it back to them served hot…LMAOoo

An osimhen too im sure wouldn’t lay low for any of them.

No man is an island of madness…!!!

Talk about fighting fire with fire.

  • Funny enough those people that were insulting our players have never done anything meaningful for the country.

God bless Super Eagles of Nigeria.

They are being paid by Tax payers money. Jay Jay Okocha started it by criticizing Maduka Okoye round of 16 against Tunisia instead of blaming his nephew Iwobi for not tackling Tunisian on time until near our 18 yard box. Iwobi never defended Maduka Okoye. This is Karma. Part of the game is criticism. At their various clubs fans criticize them and they do take it in good faith. Man United fans always criticize Onana. It’s part of sport

      • Dr. Drey 8 months ago

Really…iwobi should have tackled the Tunisian opponent while still on the bench….? Do you know what you are typing at all…?

        Interesting.

      • Did you really watch that match before opening your mouth? Against Tunisia in Afcon 2021, Iwobi got a red card and this same Iwobi should be doing what? Really?

An Iwobi Law on Cyberbullying. A call to action for FIFA, CAF, and NFF.

In the world of soccer, as known in the USA, and football as it is known worldwide, nothing is more important to the fans than winning. Emotions run high and amok which can lead to the most unreasonable plus uncontrollable poor choice behaviors if the choice results for most fans are not met.

In the past, we have seen nations on the verge of war, cities divided, friendly communities becoming enemies, and people losing their lives due to football matches.

Following the mishaps that have emanated from football activities, FIFA has introduced lots of safety measures to mitigate these problems. Some of these problems have persisted with new ones cropping up due to major world changes in technology, migration, and the growth of the sports football. Migration and the growth of football have led to more talented players playing their football skills in other countries plus continents.

The transfer of players to other countries led to an increase in racism, match-fixing, bribery, and tribalism. On the other hand, the improvement and increase in the reach of technology, especially the exponential reach in the use of internet services has resulted in the explosion of this new thing called cyberbullying. Twenty years ago, football cyberbullying was not a problem in the football community. Today, it is an emerging problem that will explode to unmanageable levels if not tackled effectively at this time.

Looking at Cyberbullying and some trends noticed with the Iwobi saga. We saw individuals writing negative emotional statements targeting the person “Alex Iwobi”. Some targeted his family and friends with hurtful words plus statements. These cyberbullying acts were seen all over the internet. On places like Instagram, Tik-Tok, Facebook, X formerly called Twitter, YouTube, websites, Blogs, and so many other internet arenas

We also noticed the trend of online celebrities with thousands and millions of followers writing negative emotional statements towards innocent footballers thereby inciting their followers to directly inflame the fires of cyberbullying towards those targeted innocent footballers. The case of Iwobi is a genuine example of this negative behavioral pattern.

Some of the dangers that come with bullying which is assumed to be more dangerous in comparable terms to regular face-to-face bullying include a high level of suicide plus suicidal tendencies, depression, loss of self-confidence, loss of self-esteem plus self-worth, increased withdrawal behaviors with self-isolation, sadness, increase in anxiety levels, anger, grief and loss behaviors with lots of other negative effects that cyberbullying brings up.

Losing an important soccer match like the finals of the African Cup of Nations will itself bring feelings of loss and grief to the losers. Adding the effects of cyberbullying to the emotions of such individuals is like adding more fuel to a burning fire. Emotional distortions and other severe negative effects can set in.

FIFA which is the global football governing body has done a lot to eradicate things like match-fixing, racism, and bribery plus all other negative things affecting the beautiful game of football by placing heavy fines plus closure of stadiums. In most severe cases outright bans from the game are given to defaulting individuals, nations, clubs, and groups.

At this time, nothing has been done by FIFA to stop this ugly growing trend of cyberbullying before severe incidents take place. We don’t wish for that time but laws and examples should be set in precedence as soon as possible to nip this problem in the bud before it becomes a monster. An outright ban of football activities should be placed on football cyber bullies especially those that have thousands or millions of followers whose effects are felt the most. I urge FIFA, CAF, NFF, and the Nigerian legislatures to take immediate action on this emerging problem. Copied

No one needs to insult any player… but this kind of scenario happens in other places also. I think we just need better players who can step up to the plate and execute a manager’s philosophy properly. There are players on the team that are deadweights and we have shouted it for so long… some players who have not shown any capacity to improve for the last 5years of continuous involvement in the Super Eagles squad should make way for others that are better . It’s such a shame that a defender was the one who rose most to the occasion and merittedly was the player of the tournament. We saw all we needed to see about Osimhen, he is not the finished clinical striker yet… we saw Sebastian Heller conjure magic out of nothing… we saw a young Adingra(22yrs) teach our wingers how to do the job and we saw minnows like Mauritania jumble almighty Algeria playing with courage… for years some of us shouted and called out players here, People who have played some level of considerable football know when a player isn’t up to the task… I personally have dropped the names of Chukwueze, Aribo,Iwobi, Simon, Ekong and Onyeka on this site for last couple of years as forumites will bear me witness. Of these names… today I can proudly raise the flag for Ekong and Onyeka because they have earned their stripes… players who have shown themselves not to have a capacity to improve that we know should make way for others who are ready and deserving… Iwobi hasn’t been up to the task in the last two AFCONs… at any rate, I will rather no one insults him, but we need new options in his role.

Lets be fair to Iwobi whom some others referred to as Ówobi. Iwobi was bullied ever before the first match at the nations cup for sins he knew nothing about, like being used as a cannon folder to cover tribal mess. This affected his contribution to the Nigerian national side. Looking at him closely, he was just on the pitch running around and trying to impress those who’s ox wasn’t going to be gored, they give no hoot. That’s what happened and even those in the know lack the heart and courage to pin point it but rather went hysterical typing abusive silly, OP to those whose minds are on top gear doing what they do best. Leave Umar out of it for that guy is having conscience issues for refusing to play in Afcon. To Iwobi, I will say take things easy for the true fans of the Super Eagles of Nigeria know that many of you are innocently being brought to disrepute because certain members of your tribe are collecting crumbs on una heads to fester their nest while the general race innocently pay so that it will largely goes around like what goes around, comes around just to reverse the psychology. In the mid time, Peseiro should be sacked for what some perceived as sellout of the last match against the host. My kóbó kóbó on the issue.

    • Na only for we body dem wuna mheen get power nau. I dey fear hawusa boys so iwobi remains jara, lolo

Na allah go punish umar and since he can speak pigin i think i needs being given back, back to back. Umar, u dey mAAd, you hear? Or do U umar no kno how naija population take dey with their super eagles in any tournament? Even common friendlies keep naija pples glued to their tv sets and you lied that U umar sadiq or whatever was unwell, ran to spain to start featuring for your cludside having used Nigeria as a springboard to rise. umar, be craze let me hia piiiiiim from U again. Just look at how the baboon is dragging iwobis name hia and the socalled ibo brothers of iwobi hia are also very siily for not decoding dis.

A lot of fans are fake so if we had won all this bullying will not happen. A lot of people criticising people can not boast of any achievement in life but are quick to condemn players and say they can be replaced. Why haven’t they replaced you that has always failed until now but coming to form internet coach. Una know una self fake fans pretending to love but using the team for gamble no wonder you go salvage when e no enter.

Sadiq Umar is an animal thinking he can talk back who give that hausa goat mouth to talk idiot.

  • On several occasions Harry Maguire was subjected to insults, abuses, bullying etc but I’ve never for once heard that young man cursing people’s parents.

Same with Saka after he missed a spot kick in Euros which Italy eventually won.

Messi was always criticized by maradona and other Argentina fan yet he never talked back but rather did everything possible to prove his critics wrong.

The list continues…. Is it ONANA, kepa, de gea, karius, Werner Timo, odoi, I can’t exhaust the list.
But these players never talked back to fans in a harsh way come to talk of insulting fan’s parents.

Sodiq Umar I think this is uncalled for. You miss it here. You need to grow up mentally and emotionally.

Can you rain insults and abuses on real sociedad fans when they criticize you?
Capital NO right…. If not “SEE FINISH” why would you do that to your Nigerian fan?.

Man you need to grow up.

I’m not in support of fans bullying or cursing players that performed below par.
    We all have our flaws….

You can’t try this statement in Real sociedad where you play your professional football.

Allow fans to do the talking while you act like Messi….. Silencing all critics with stats.

Remember, these people see you as a professional, they come out to watch you, why not do something to impress them?

You want to fight people that are coming to watch you play soccer?

Do you know some people are gamblers? They’ve staked for the game already.

If you’re not invited now you’ll start quarrelling…. Now you’re invited and you can’t live up to fans expectation, what do you expect from the angry fan?.

Brother please don’t ever make that attempt to insults fans parents, it’s not funny and it’s not professional

So players should keep quiet all the time and tolerate cyber bullies. It’s just like tolerating racism in football. If someone insults your mom or your wife all the time in your face then you keep quiet abi. If i am a player, i will give it back to you and take legal actions against you. If i was Iwobi, all those celebrities with millions of followers that incited cyberbullying actions would have seen me in court. If you know the damage these cyber bullies have done to destroy the mental health of players you will be amazed. Do a thorough psych assessment on a player before and after cyberbully attack, then you will understand how dangerous it is.

General Boobs criticised Iwobi. He has to return to the barracks.

  • Nothing Sweets a fan than seeing his team win,it’s to emotional.i’m a core Manchester city fan,I feel sad whenever the loss a match as if they’ve never won any, that’s fan support.
But truth be told,Iwobi didn’t try at all,he was a minus in the squad.not good in attacking and defending, I’m not being tribalistic, iwobi is an Igbo, same with me.yeh I criticized him cos I want the best for the super eagles, cos I’m a Nigerian.then coming to Umar Sadiq,I was surprised he didn’t play at all,but him indirectly insulting Nigerians with the threat that he is an Hausa boy, stark illiterate than can’t use good English when posting on social media, his comment didn’t show any patriotism, and that’s where religious tribalism comes in, that he is an Hausa boy, that’s to show the level of uncivilzation when it comes to Nigeria.
It’s sad,he insulted us, when no one spoke about him.but let the fact be still maintained that Iwobi contributed absolutely nothing to Nigeria during the just concluded afcon campaign.
