Inter Ambush Liverpool In First UCL Round Of 16  Appearance In 10 Years

Liverpool take on Inter Milan tonight in the Second Round of the Champions League at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, San Siro.

Liverpool are favourites to win the tie after emerging as Group B winners – a blockbuster group also containing Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Fc Porto, while Inter Milan were runners up to Real Madrid in Group D.

Liverpool have been in good form , winning their recent games in the Premier League.

Inter Milan on the other hand, lost 2-1 to AC Milan and drew 1-1 with Napoli in the Serie A .

This is the first time Inter Milan are playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League in a decade.

Inter players, Joaquin Correa and Robin Gosens, will miss the game due to injury and Niccolo Barrela is suspended for the match.

Speaking ahead of the game Jurgen Klopp claimed Inter Milan were a solid side.

“The difference between Inter and Burnley is massive in some parts, but other parts not so much. It is still a football game. If we are dominant ,Inter will defend compact, but it will not be as windy or rainy,” Klopp said.

“They have top class players and a top class manager. It is the best team again in Italy. They look really solid and they have creativity on the pitch. We will have to show a top class performance to stand a chance.”

Inter Milan’s Coach Simone Inzaghi said during pre-match press conference that his players would be determined in the game

“Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe, but our players deserve to play these kinds of games,” Inzaghi started.

“We haven’t played in the Round of 16 for many years and although it will be very difficult, we’ll try to make it.

“On paper, Liverpool are the favourites, but games must be played .

“I will ask the players to go on the pitch and play our Football with a free mind, showing our ideas. Determination will make the difference.”
