Jota Skips Training With Knock

Diogo Jota missed first-team training on Friday with a knock but could still be in contention to face Newcastle on Monday.

The Portugal international is in Marbella with the Wolves squad as they prepare for the visit of Rafa Benitez’s man to Molineux in sunnier climes.

Jota did not train with the rest of the group because of what is being described as a “slight knock” and spent time in the gym doing some rehabilitation work instead.

Jota has missed only a handful of matches since joining Wolves in June 2017, making 43 starts in the Championship last term and appearing in 20 of 25 Premier League matches this season, mostly as a starter.

Compatriot Rui Patricio believes the clash with Newcastle, who beat Premier League leaders Manchester City recently, will be an exacting affair.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, as all the games in the Premier League are,” he told the club’s official website. “It will be a game against an excellent team, but let’s do as we’ve been doing, to fight to win, to play our game and be focused.

“We’re playing at home, in our stadium in front of our fans, and I’d like to thank our fans for their support, whether it’s home or away. “It’s going to be a difficult game but we’re in a good position to fight hard for the win.”
