Kenyan athletes showcased their prowess at the 10th Okpekpe International 10km Road Race in Okpekpe, Edo State Nigeria on Saturday, May 25, winning races and top prices in both the men’s and women’s categories.
No records were broken, but the rampant Kenyans dominated. In the men’s category, Pingua Zakayo Edward of Kenya clinched the top spot with a time of 29:31, earning $15,000. Fellow Kenyans Isaac Kimpemboi and Alex Olotiptip finished second and third, clocking 29:36 and 29:37 respectively, taking home $8,000 and $5,000.
The Kenyan women were equally dominant. Gladys Kwanbuka led with 33:05, followed by Regina Wambui at 33:38, and Sheila Cherotick at 34:27, all receiving equal prize money as their male counterparts.

In the Nigerian category, Francis James Musa emerged victorious in 30:46, securing half a million Naira, while defending champion Israel Sadjo finished second in 31:51, winning N300,000. Dung Elijah Emmanuel took third place with 32:20, earning N200,000.
Patience Daylop Mwavwang defended her title in the Nigerian women’s race, finishing in 37:07. Yilmunen Nicholas Gokun and Blessing Shambo Solomon followed close behind, securing second and third places with times of 37:23 and 37:28, respectively.
