Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has called for calm and unity after last Sunday’s final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was almost marred with violence in Rabat.
In a Royal Cabinet statement, King Mohammed VI acknowledged the controversial final between Morocco and Senegal, describing the incidents in the closing minutes as “unfortunate” but underscoring that “once emotions settle, the spirit of African brotherhood will prevail.”
He reiterated Morocco’s commitment toward strengthening the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity, expressing pride in being a great African country.

“Despite attempts to spread falsehoods, the Moroccan people remain discerning and will not be drawn into hostility or division. The centuries-old bonds among African nations, and the ongoing cooperation across the continent, remain strong and continue to grow through ambitious partnerships.
“Once the passion and emotions have subsided, inter‑African fraternity will naturally prevail.
“Nothing can undermine the close ties forged over the centuries between our African peoples, nor the fruitful cooperation built with countries across the continent and strengthened by increasingly ambitious partnerships.
“In accordance with the enlightened Vision of the Sovereign, Morocco will further its resolute and steadfast commitment in favor of a united and prosperous Africa, notably through mutual exchange of experiences, expertise and knowledge,” the statement concluded.
