Klopp: Salah Deserved Spot In PFA Team of the Year

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that Mohamed Salah deserved to be named in the PFA Team of the Year 2018/19.

Despite having four players (Andrew Robertson, Trent-Alexander Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane) included in the PFA Team of the Year, Klopp believes about seven of his players should have been named in the team.

Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – who have both scored 19 league goals apiece this season, were left out, as were Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, with 17 and 16 Premier League goals respectively.

“It’s impressive. It’s good and deserved. For me, my team is team of the season anyway,” Klopp said in a pre-match conference ahead of Liverpool clash against Huddersfield Town.

“From my point of view, there’s could have been four, five, six, maybe seven more players involved.

“The players in the Premier League make the decision so it’s the most honest competition of the year, even when the players don’t watch the game.

“When you come in the team as a defender obviously players came up against them and felt uncomfortable.

“Mo would have deserved it again. He’s up there again with the top scorers and scored so many incredibly important goals for us.”

“Gini Wijnaldum plays an incredible season, 100 per cent. Jordan Henderson is in a shape where if they would vote today then he would probably be in and stuff like that, so it’s good.”

Klopp also provides update on the injured pair of Fabinho and Adam Lallana, revealing that they will be assessed before Liverpool’s meeting with Huddersfield.

“All a bit questionable, we don’t know exactly in the moment. We will have to see today. We gave them all a proper rest. Dejan trained yesterday so that’s OK probably and the other two we will see.”

On Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,, Klopp said: “Ox trained, all good.”

He also reiterates that Liverpool are pushing hard to claim the title.

The Reds drop to second in the Premier League table after Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday courtesy of goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.

City will retain the title if they win their last three league matches.

“We are here because of the players. The boys did outstandingly well, everyday pushing their limit.”

“It’s not important what people think about you. After a season, if you listen to the public you have to sell like 15 players and bring in 15 players and if there’s a good striker out there you have to buy him,” Klopp remarked.

“You have to trust your own feelings and your own decisions. It is proved through the season whether you were right.”

“There’s still a team with a point more right now and we respect that but we are working to close that gap.”
