Klopp Wants Set-Piece Goals

Jurgen Klopp wants his Liverpool side to start scoring more goals from set-pieces to aid their battle for the Premier League title.

Only title rivals Manchester City have scored more than the 64 Liverpool have notched so far this term, but the Reds have had a heavy reliance on attacking trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who have contributed 40 of those goals.

Indeed, Xherdan Shaqiri is the only other player to have scored more than three league goals for Liverpool this season and Klopp believes taking more opportunities from set-pieces will help his side enjoy a greater spread of goals. “Of course you need goals from set-pieces, that’s very important,” Klopp said. “You need to be ready in all departments. Set-pieces helped us, especially in the beginning of the season quite a lot, then it disappeared a bit.

“But now hopefully we can get it back. I love scoring from set-pieces, you have a lot of them in the game and you need to use them.” Liverpool will fancy their chances of taking advantage of set-piece opportunities when they travel across Stanley Park to take on Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday. A third of the 39 goals that Everton have conceded in the league this season have come from set-piece situations.
