Leclerc Delighted To Take Singapore Pole

Charles Leclerc produced an impressive final lap in qualifying to snatch pole position ahead of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix. The 21-year-old Monegasque driver has put his Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the shade this season, having won the previous two races in Italy and Belgium.

And Leclerc again got the better of the German at the Marina Bay Circuit as he recorded a fastest final lap to snatch his fifth pole position of the 2019 season. He told Sky Sports: “It was a very good lap, there were some moments when I thought I had lost the car.

“I would like to thank the team so much for what they’ve done. The team has done an amazing job and I’m extremely happy to be on pole. “We had a very tough Friday, yesterday was not my day, but I worked hard in the car and it paid off today.”

Vettel then watched as Mercedes’ championship leader Lewis Hamiton finished 0.029seconds ahead of him to take second place on the grid with the four-time world champion dropping to third. Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Alex Albon were fourth and sixth respectively, with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas sandwiched between the pair in fifth.
