The Nigeria international is no stranger to League One, having previously featured in the division during his career.
The goalkeeper played a key role in Wrexham’s automatic promotion from League One just over a year ago, keeping 19 clean sheets in 33 league appearances.
There are also doubts over Okonkwo’s future at Wrexham, with the club already linked with Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
Should Wrexham meet Patterson’s reported £8m asking price, the Red Dragons are likely to view him as their first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Okonkwo.
The 24-year-old, who has less than a year left on his contract with Wrexham, has also been linked with Bristol City, Watford and Derby County.
The shot stopper made his debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles against the Warriors of Zimbabwe last month.
