Lille forward Victor Osimhen has bemoaned the side’s failure to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League, reports Completesports.com.
The Great Danes finished the season in fourth position and will play in the Europa League next term.
The 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season was halted due to the spread of coronavirus with Paris Saint-Germain declared champions.
Osimhen enjoyed a superb debut campaign in France scoring 18 goals and bagging six assists in 31 games across all competitions.
The 21-year-old was voted the club’s player of the year and was also named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season.
“Winning the Lille player of the season was not my target,” Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.
“My target was to help the team finish in the Champions League spot. But I want to thank my team-mates and those who voted for me.”
Osimhen, who joined Lille from Belgian Pro League club Sporting Charleroi at the start of the season also reflects on his time in France.
“I’m really happy – it’s a great feeling – I’m here and proving it,” said the former Wolfsburg an striker.
“The league is not as easy as some people think. It’s very competitive and you have to play among the best.”
