God first. Thank you God for making it possible to be alive today.

Fellow Nigerians, let’s pray for Super Eagles to have a good outing in Cameroon.

Although, NFF and the coaches did not do well based on the selections of the players in the team but for now, let’s support our own and kick our corruption out of our system later. Good luck to Super Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • onwajunior 2 years ago

Amen!!! Seconded. Good luck and God bless

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

You can watch the match here my people

      “FEED4U”. LET’S GOOOO 9JA. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

Alhamdulilah. To God be the glory.

Congratulations Nigerians. I am highly proud of our “own” kę. @onwajunior, amen to the prayer.

      “Same team different product”.

I said to you all on here that Mr. No nonsense will mode this team and turn it to something spectacular and he will do exactly what Belmadi did when he took over the Algerian team. Now you know who is Mr. No nonsense is?

What else did NFF want from “our own”

This “NFF AJĘWOMASAN” the doctor should ask the new coach to goooo. I said it before now that our own are better than foreign coach if given the opportunity and free hand to work.

Can you now see that we can build a team in less than two weeks? Our players are professionals now.

We saw quality display from our darling Super Eagles today.

As I said before, I have promised you Nigerians. I said I promised you a total football and did you not enjoy the match today yes or no?

I am deeply elated and proud of we patriotic Nigerians.

Can you compare Oga Rohr with our own?

More still coming. Just watch out for our Super Eagles, the pride of Africa.

We missed Dessers in this match today but after this tournament, we are going to have more player for selections.

Hmmm. How market you the former Oga Rohr fans?????????????

Let’s me celebrate this oje ee. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • ALAMEDE 2 years ago

you are right but the selfishness of some players will not help us.

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

I noticed that too @ALAMEDE but I promise you Mr. No nonsense will fix the problem before the next match.

For me to named someone Mr. No nonsense Kai, I know what am talking about kę. Don’t worry the coach will tell his guy to fix that. Am just praying that NFF will not corrupt Mr. No nonsense. That is my only fear now.

However, my only worry is our strikers. They need to be more clinical in front of goal. They need to score goals. They we get better from now in this tournament. The conferenceis back.

More so, Mr. No nonsense needs to talk to Nacho about his lack of concentration.

Nacho needs to be more focused for the entire 90 minutes.

Nonetheless, we missed Dessers in this match today and we are still going to miss his services in this tournament.

I read Oga Rohr statement before the match and he was saying that Nigeria did not have big players. We don’t have players in Barcelona, Real Madrid and so on bla bla bla.

Now, we all see today that nobody can understand Nigeria more than the Nigerians themselves.

We did not have big players at the big clubs but we won Afcon thrice, Olympic gold medals and Afcon Silver medals and Bronze medals.

We do not have big players in Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United still, we outclassed MO Salah and his team and I hope Oga Rohr will talk after the match. Hmm. I am still waiting to hear from him.

Upon all the coaching crew of the Egyptian team, our own and our players outclassed the Egyptian team with MO Salah.

This shows that what we are looking for in sokoto is already in our shokoto kę.

Mr. Sports minister Dare will be launching at Amaju Pinnick and his company now.

Why did Amaju and NFF hired a foreign because of corruption. Why slave mentality is pulling our leaders backwards.

Mr. Sęgun Ódęgbami, Dosu, Mobi Oparaku, Aghahowa, and the rest will be launching at Oga Rohr and his followers now.

For you Oga Rohr followers, I will not mention your names but you know yourselves.

You people called so many bad names because of a foriegner.

Omoale 9ja, internet coach, bla bla bla. Now you all know now that what an elderly man seen when sitting Kai, if you the former followers of Oga Rohr climb Iroko trees, you can never see it.

I omo9ja the son of his soil and we patriotic Nigerians deserves a class from you all the former Oga Rohr fans from now on.

Our own deserves some respect from you people as well.

Less I forget, I will like to congratulate the new member that joined we patriotic Nigerians that taking Nigeria back from our oppressors, Glory.

Glory can see now that he is on the right side.

We still have space for you people, as long as you can see the truth, say say the truth and call a spade a spade then you are highly welcome.

Lastly, let’s support our own to make Nigeria and Africa proud once again. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Any link I can watch Nigeria vs Egypt?

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

No matter what your country is your country. I mean I can’t help the emotionals.
But I still stand on my point that we might regret sacking GENERAL ROHR…

    But all the same,
    Good luck Eagles!
    Go Nigeria!!

    • Steve O 2 years ago

You will regret your surname not Nigeria !!..Rohr is good radiance to bad rubbish !!..just check out out current display , completely outplayed Egypt and have a goal to go with it !!.. complete dominance displace!!..you can’t see that in Rohr’s time .

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMFAO!@Steve no I won’t lie it was beautiful game. But my advice is save all this energy for the knock out stages.

    • Mirah 2 years ago

Be like Rohr na your Uncle
You were disappointed at what you saw and the final result Monkey Post. I no see your people and their long Epistles against Eguavon today lol.. I knew it would come to this, where Super Eagles under Eguavon will win and some people won’t be happy cux their prediction headed South… Super Eagles is our own, Eguavon is our own … Give respect where it is due!

      • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

@Mirah LMAO! Be economical with your celebration. Why don’t you save it for at least the semi finals??

  • _ Cutlet of Excitement on D Horizon? _

The most eagerly anticipated match is here.

This is the day the Lord has made. At the end of the match, I hope we shall all rejoice and be glad with the outcome.

Eguavoen appears to have adopted the same 4-2-3-1 formation that became rather stale, unimaginative and very depressing to watch towards the tail end of Rohr’s bumpy reign. The Interim coach has elected not to upset the applecart just yet by sticking with the nucleus of Rohr’s starting 11.

That said, relegation of Everton Misfit Iwobi to the bench headline-grabbing.

From playing table soccer on YouTube to actually playing real soccer in a grand stage, will the brand of football on display by the Super Eagles bring to light the drama, excitement and intrigue that Eguavoen intended to convey with his (much mocked) YouTube illustration?

Will the Super Eagles add a new twist and a vibrant outlook to a formation that failed to either inspire or excite during Rohr’s denouement?

    We shall soon find out.

Nigeria V Egypt: it promises to be a rivetting encounter. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

  • God please forgive us for sacking Rohr…he is the one that made us get to this point of assembling a highly young talented team…but we move..rohr has some tactical flaws… though..

    • Mirah 2 years ago

God bless you for admitting this truth. Thank you!

Make una see am o… As e talk am, e die???

  • Jide Dola 2 years ago

Why this anxiety, if SE didn’t win am not sure I will be able to eat o

  • Adebambo Sanya 2 years ago

Any online link to watch the match

  • Why the tension. It’s Egypt and afcon. It’s not Brazil or Germany. Let’s enjoy. We will win today in Jesus name.

I want to see sanusi fight with Salah on the left today..

I want to see if awoniyi has come of age..

I want to see if ekong will sit up.

I want to see if okoye truly deserve to be our number 1.

It’s a pity I can’t see Umar sodiq and ejuke immediately..

I want to see Aribo bring rnagers form to the eagles.

I want to see chukwueze punish Egypt today.

    • And frankly, I can affirm that the SE ticked most of these boxes you listed out here @Christian ministries.

Bygones be bygones with Rohr, but I’d like to say here that this is what the fans want to see. We don’t like being limited to a sick kind of play. I believe we have the set of players to enable us adapt to any system.

Look at Aribo today; Rohr would have limited him to the DMF role.

    • Mahmud Shuaib 2 years ago

Make your bile no kill you o bro.

Even the great Dr. Drey applauded the goal and wrote nothto upset the flow

You cant love ROHR more than guys like him or GREENTURF, or OAKFIELD or AYPHILLY or GLORY or POMPEI

So, pls enjoy this tourney with an open and free mind. Except, of course if ROHR pays your salary. Lol

  • De-jovial 2 years ago

Can anyone help with link to watch online please!

  • Lord AMO 2 years ago

Not bad so far. We seem to be the aggressors but its clear the egyptians are hell bent on denying us playing through the wings

  • Both teams still playing with caution and mutual respect for each other. Although, the Super Eagles as at the 20mins mark still boss possession.Based on this few minutes, it seems the Pharaoh’s like falling down at every small touch. What is happening to the football. It has been changed three times for lacking enough air and we have not played 30mins.

    • Mirah 2 years ago

It’s that braveness for me. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this version of Moses Simon, man shouldn’t go cold o. Up Eagles.

Good team performance, I mean these guys made Egypt look like a small team, made prime Salah look so ordinary. OUR OWN got it right against the Egyptians and you love to see it! On to the next!!

  • Proudly 9ja 2 years ago

We just need to calm down and see the 1st half out. Continue playing our game but not go gun blazing. We are dominating the game so far.

  • Proudly 9ja 2 years ago

Simon is playing well but his crosses as usual is wayward to say d least. He needs to improve that part of his game to be a complete player

  • John-I 2 years ago

Honestly, this Eguaveon’s team has played better and purposeful football than Rohr’s team did in six years. I’m no Rohr-hater but that’s the plain truth.

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

They are playing the Nigerian traditional way

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

Should they continue playing this way feelers would question the haste in hiring a foreign coach

      • John-I 2 years ago

Yep, Eguaveon is not not bad. I remember his U-17 team, they played great football but were letdown by toothless strikers. In the end, they were eliminated by toss of coin.
Not just because of this first half but I agree that the hiring of a foreign coach seems a knee-jerk reaction. But Eguaveon is a cool guy, he won’t mind being assistant even if Nigeria wins this Afcon.

        • You guys can be very funny, rating a coach based on 45mins of football. Make una calm down

  • Lord AMO 2 years ago

Thats the best I’ve seen of the Super Eagles since the first half against Sierra leone. But the aggression we played with is by far the best since the early 2016/17 days of rohr

  • pompei 2 years ago

If we continue playing like this, it’s a wrap.
Stay aggressive, challenge every ball, keep your defensive shape, DO NOT COMMIT TOO MANY MEN FORWARD AT ANY TIME.
    We are halfway there.

  • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

Good 1st half so far. We seem to have the egyptians where we want them to be. Full concentration and discipline is what we need to see out this game now.

  • Samson 2 years ago

Chuwkuweze should make way for Ejuke, please, Simon should leave for Henry, Awoniyi out for Umar.

    • Ikeben 2 years ago

Thank God, you are not coach. You remove Simon the man of the match at half time. Wonders shall never end.

    • I don’t know why CSN removed the like button. You have a coach’s eye. So on point. These recommended substitutions will wrap up this match for Naija.

Meanwhile, this is a lot, lot better fluid, coordinated and tactical play by the SE, compared to the final few months under Rohr.

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

Simon to leave are you messing??!
Awoniyi is playing well you don’t just make substitutions for the sake of it.

  • RESPECT IS RECIPROCAL 2 years ago

TO GOD BE THE GLORY. WE CAN ALL SEE THE DIFFERENT IN THE PLAY THIS IS WHY WE CLAMOURED FOR THE REMOVAL OF ROHR ,LOOK AT PLAYERS HITHERTO LABELED AS SLUGGISH AND UNINTELLIGENT MOSES NOW TORMENTING THE EGYPTIAN. ROHR SUCCEEDED IN TURNING OUR PLAYERS TO DEFENDERS AND FOR THIS OUR GAME WAS BORING AND DULL.
WHO DOES NOT LIKE THE WAY WE PLAY NOW ,EVEN THE EGYPTIAN KNEW THEY CAN COME OUT TO PLAY US OTHERWISE GOALS WILL COUNT IN THEIR NET.
ITS MY PRAYER THAT WE DONT RELENT NOW YOU CAN ALL SEE OUR GAME BEING BALANCED . LOOK AT ARIBO MY GOD ROHR IS A DISASTER TO OUR PLAYERS DEVELOPMENT.

    • Steve O 2 years ago

Ass hole Rohr fool, I hope you have seen good football the Nigerian way ?

  • Chief Sports 2 years ago

The difference in pace between the two teams is quite telling…this is a very organized Nigerian team. We still have to wait for the second half tho. The atmosphere here in Garoua is crazy. It almost feels like the game is being played in Lagos.

  • KENNETH 2 years ago

Oya where una dey. Mr parrot. Hope you can see a difference. Your oyinbo was just let us play boring soccer. See how we making Egypt look ordinary. For me would have preferred Simon play from the right and chukweze on the left. The team reminds me of under 17 at UAE.

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Awoniyi and Iheanacho are reigniting their U17 partnership. They look like the most potent attack so far in the AFCON. Awoniyis hold up play is way better than Osimhen’s, but he’s not as clinical as Osimhen. Nigeria could’ve been 2 goals up. Besides that he’s been a nuisance to the Egyptian CBs, while Moses Simon is terrorizing the RB. So far Iheanacho, Awoniyi and Simon have been bright in attack and overall team play. I haven’t seen anything from Chukwueze yet. And the defensive partnership of Ekong and Omeruo looks powerful and fast. Sanusi and Aina have been impeccable. Overall a good team display in the first half. Let’s hope they see this lead through.

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

      Well said my brother @Ayphillydegreat.
An introduction of Iwobi for Chukwueze would literally destroy the Egyptians

  • Chinenye 2 years ago

Chukwueze needs to offer support to the attack. On several occasions Kelechi had the ball but had only Awoniyi as the only outlet. The coach should ask him to move up a beat so when Kelechi gets the ball, he will have more bodies to pass the ball

  • Ololo 2 years ago

    What an impressive first half..

The defense has been solid. Ekong, omerue, aina and salisu have all done a great job keeping Salah quiet.. particularly I have been impressed with the leadership of ekong.

Simon is the best player for the first half, this is his best I have seen of him since he became an intentional player, obviously rohn didn’t utilize him well, he has no business as a right back with such quality we see today.

For the second half. Chuks should awonyi should give way, I would love to see iwobi play another role as a winger, rohn seems to have limited a few of this players so let us see something new today

  • Walking 2 years ago

Atibo has been fantastic so far.
Ekong has been awesome with his long balls, I must commend.
Simon has bee quite cool, just need to work on his crosses.
Zaidu, has been diligent so far.
Ndidi, watching like a dog, beautiful.

    Others still cool as well.

  • pompei 2 years ago

Salah is Salah because of the support he receives at Liverpool. He can’t do it all by himself. He needs his Egypt colleagues to step up.
Sub in Ejuke in the 2nd half to keep Egypt busy at the back. With him, they will be afraid to send more men up to help Salah.

  • Olujimi Morgan 2 years ago

Impressive performance. Passing is good. Midfield clicks and pressurises Egypt. Best Eagles play since 2018 WC qualifying. Eguavon knows Nigerian strengths and understands our mentality. Big Up. We can score more goals and win all 3 points.

Umanna Bassey… God bless you mum for giving birth to a sound mind like you!!!

Football no the lie… Who no belong… no belong!!! A local coach thumping a foreign coach… Kawai!

Say no more… When we tell them we know our football and don’t need robotic and Mechanical football wey the make everybody even the like of CAR to kick our behind… they called us racists and haters.

I have refused to comment during this live blogging because I was 100% focused on analyzing our plays. Imagine if Eguaveon is paid 25k Euros… half of Pa Rohr’s salary, what table Eguaveon, or a deserving local coach will do.

I am just happy and not ready to exchange banters with anyone tonight… believe in your own they won’t hear… We must find our own white messiah who will come and save us.

@Chux Haifa also thank you for your comment… Pick the right players and your job is half done. Ww want fit and hungry players and we must know that often a slim victory like today does the job. No long talk… One love to all Nigerians!

  • Congratulations to the coach, super eagles and Nigerians. Great performance from the team. Big ups to the coach, eguavoen for his confidence and boldness to bench certain regulars such as iwobi, musa and collins and start those players who are in form.
I also like his timely substitutions and the right substitutions at that. He was removing attacking players and bringing in midfielders to sure up the game but still left to players who can break forth in umar and ejuke.
Its a great win. Egypt never knew what hit them. On to the next game

    • I think Egypt game plan was to counter Nigeria playing like they did under Rohr. They were absolutely shell shocked today with the tempo, speed, energy, wing play etc by the Eguavon SE. This is all most of us have been telling Rohr play to Nigeria’s strength. When you attack with speed and high tempo while remaining compact then the opposition will have no breathing room to cause you problems. Couldn’t believe it was same Liverpool Salah today. Okoye was virtually on holiday and their first coner kick came way into the 2nd half. SE just need to work on finishing and some of the decisions in the attacking 3rd like when to shoot or play in a runner arriving and I see them winning this cup if keep up with the aggressive play. Days of defensive football is over.

Based on this game I feel vindicated on wanting Rohr out but this is first game so have still be vigilant. Can’t count how many times I was frustrated seeing him bench Aina and Sanusi even Ebuehi now we see that was the wrong decision. Omeruo was good and he was one that surprised me. Good job SE keep up the good work.

Underestimate the guys at ur peril. Eguavoen 1 foreign coach 0. See a very tactical and discipline display by eguavoen and his team. Eguavien has shown that he is tactically astute. See how we played with purpose and dominating our oppobent from d bladt of the whistle to the end. It could have been worse for egypt today. Aribo played ball today. The team gets an excellent grade. Even Ekong was brave and good today. Good play by the team today. Kudos goes to Eguavoen. Made early changes not waiting till 87th min to make the necessary play. Awesome job guys, we are proud of u. Awoniyi was a monster today, tired the backline of egypt. Simon moses tormentor-in-chuef, please improve on your delivery, u played tirelessly helping sanusi. Aina was massive. Ndidi onye-ball. Table Soccer turned real soccer. Our very own got this particular one right.

Kudos to the team. Efficient football to the later.
From Okoye to Ekong to Aina, Ndidi, Simon, Nacho etc……Weldone, well one.
We have dodged 1 of 2 bullets in this AFCON tonight.
Congrats to the boys once again…!

  • If only Moses Simon can improve his crosses and final ball distribution, seriously he can unlock defence but the final ball from him is always rubbish. For once, Ekong played like a proper defender.

    • Mirah 2 years ago

Being an inverted winger, Moses Simon is required to cut in, crossing will always be hard for him and it’s the reason for all those poor crosses. He’s more threatening today, we want more of that.

  • Ololo 2 years ago

    Congratulations super eagles.

Some players didn’t impress me.. players like nwakali, Sadiq, and Samuel chuks.. they should be benched for the next game.

These second division players should not be in this team aside omerue and Collins.

Ejuke was his usual self but he needs to be clinical.. he was supposed to score the chances he had. A musa would have scored if he was in that position.

For the game against against Sudan , my formation is this

    Okoye

    Aina(ebuehi if aina is injured)
    Sanusi
Omerue ( awaziem, if he is fit, omerue looks to have sustained a serious injury)
    Ekong
    Ndidi
    Aribo
    Iwobi
    Simon
    Ejuke
    Iheancho(he can lead the attack)

  • John-I 2 years ago

@Ayphillydegreat Kelechi Iheanacho won MOTM. You remember the name? Lol.
Mek people wey no sabi ball go sleep abeg. Congrats to Super Eagles.

    1. Okoye made himself big to deny Salah.
    2. Anna was solid.
    3. Ndidi and Aribo played like people possessed.
    4. Simon tournamented Egypt throughout.
    Chukwueze was disappointing.
    5. Awoniyi is a twin brother to Iheanacho, right from U-17 days. Lol
    6. Omeruo was solid, his experience and composure was glaring.
    7. Ekong made some great interception but always looked like he was one-foot away from a mistake.
    8. Sanusi was impeccable.
    9. Kelechi Iheanacho is Kelechi Iheanacho, enough said. Seniorman.

    10. Ejuke annoyed me the most. Looks like a very selfish player. But I understand his anxiety to be on the scoresheet.

    The subs did their best.

For the first time in many years, I watched a defensive solid, compact and purposeful Nigerian team. The Eguaveon effect!

Congrats to Eguaveon, Pep Guardiola of Africa.

    • Perfect summary @John-I. Thank you. I don’t knock it into the head of Ejuke and Chukwueze when to release the ball. That was the difference between them and Aina with those mazy runs on the right flank. Umar could have made it 2-0 if Ejuke had been less about personal glory.

      • John-I 2 years ago

Both are a bit identical but Chidera Ejuke annoyed me the most. He had a great chance to pickout Saddick but went for glory instead. Eguaveon must talk to them. Their pace and trickery is still an asset. I expect them to improve in the next game.
They should learn from Iheanacho and Awoniyi’s partnership, especially in the first half. They were selfless to one another.
        Better days ahead.

  • Football is all about confidence and wanting the victory more than your opponent……. Eguaveon has proved himself already regardless of what happens eventually……Nice game and very confident play from SE…….Quick to the ball…….Fast in attack……smooth and effortless passes…….What else can the fans ask for?

    • Congrats to the team and the coach. A great win today. The performers were clearly outstanding and noticeable throughout the match. Nacho, Ndidi, Ekong, Moses Simon, Aina, Zaidu, Okoye and Omeruo. Chukwueze added serious bite to the attack a lot.
Not impressed by Umar and Nwakali. This is the same thing I said before the match. That today will go a long way to show if he has improved at all.

Aribo impressed me despite playing without an Iwobi. Though there is a bit of concern for me. Playing too many long balls rather than playing the ball on the ground.
This seems to be a trend in African football though. We really need to learn how to play with the ball on the ground rather than launching long balls into attack.

A more organized team will deal with us seriously on this. But hopefully we will get better.

  • Dr dre I want to thank you immensely for the link you posted, you are a nice guy

    OBSERVATION

    1) OUR TWO BACK WINGERS AINA AND ZAIDU BOTH FROM TORINO AND FC PORTO WERE SPECTACULAR. YOU CAN HAVE SUCH BIG DEFENDERS AND KEEP THEM ON THE BENCH LIKE USELESS ROHR DID.

2)OUR 2 MIDFIELDERS IN PERSONS OF ARIBO AND NDIDI WERE TOO MUCH TO BE INTIMIDATED BY SALAH.

3)ITS OBVIOUS OUR BENCH IS NOT THAT STRONG AS THE INTRODUCTION OF SOME PLAYERS DID NOT IMPROVE PLAY ALTHOUGH ITS STILL EARLY TO RATE NWAKALI AND UMAR.

    4) ARIBO LOOKS TIRED TOWARDS THE END AND THIS GAVE THE EGYPTIAN PLAYERS TO DOMINATE THE MIDFIELD

    5) WHY HAS ROHR BEEN BENCHING AINA HE IS ALWAYS AN EXPLOSIVE PLAYERS VERY QUICK IN THINKING AND CONFIDENCE.

    6) NDIDI HAS TO IMPROVE ON HIS SHOOTING AND PASSES IF HE TRULY WANTS TO BE THE BEST OTHERWISE NO BIG CLUBS WILL COME FOR HIM HE HAS TO DO MORE THAN MARKING AND BLOCKING.

    7) EJUKE WAS SELFISH ON TWO OCCASIONS HE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER BY RELEASING THE BALLS FOR OTHERS TO MAKE USE OF IT.

    8) WE CAN ALL SEE THAT THE BEST THING NFF DID LAST YEAR WAS TO SACK THAT CLUELESS ROHR AND IT WORKED FOR US ITS ONLY PEOPLE WITH SLAVERY MENTALITY THAT WILL SPIT FIRE FOR THIS DECISION.

    9) CHUKWU NEEDS TO BE MORE MATURE AND HARDWORKING HE SEEMS LAZY AND GET TIRED EASILY., FOR NOW I WILL GO FOR EJUKE

    • Bro can we please let go of the past. Rorh is in the past now…. let’s focus on the present and future….Insulting that old man would not solve anything.
We are all proud of SE and Austin Eguavoen

    • You are such an idiot for insulting Gernot Rohr, the man has paid his dues, let him be. This same discovered and convinced both to play for us, so what is the fuss about. We are all happy that the SE played well today, but that doesn’t mean we should forget in hurry that Rohr build the structure. Let’s move on and stop insulting him

  • I just want to give thanks to God for todays victory.

  • We can all we what difference in pattern of play can do to a player. Most people here condemned the inclusion of Moses Simon. Alas, with the decision of Eguavoen to play wing football (a pattern that Nigerian players are comfortable with), we see a different Moses Simon. Now I ask, which coach would want to put Simon on the bench with what he played today. Same goes to Chukwueze!

As for the much clamored Ejuke, I think the coach should glue him to the bench if he refuses to engage in link up play or be a team player. What is the essence of being a good dribbler if your dribbles don’t benefit the team as a whole. I think Ejuke is somewhat selfish in his play. Also, with the way the eagles played today, I don’t think Sodiq fits into Eguavoen’s pattern of play.

I think Eguavoen’s best possible 1st eleven is what he used in the first half. This eagles’ strength lies in their wide plays and with more cohesion between Iheanacho and Awoniyi, I think the eagles would be difficult to beat.

  • pompei 2 years ago

Ever since he led Nigeria to beat Algeria 5-2 in their backyard, I knew Eguavoen was capable. Was not too impressed with the circumstances that brought him back in the saddle, but I always felt he could do a job.
The only thing this team needs to improve on is converting chances. Egypt should have collected 3 or 4 today. But for some stunning misses.
Very happy with our defense and midfield. Okoye also looked assured today.
If we improve in the goal scoring department, this Afcon may be heading home.

AFCON: Nigeria don’t have players in Chelsea, Man Utd – Rohr takes dig at Super Eagles – Daily Post Nigeria – https://dailypost.ng/2022/01/11/afcon-nigeria-dont-have-players-in-chelsea-man-utd-rohr-takes-dig-at-super-eagles/

If you still in doubt that Oga Rohr (a.k.a Belmadi’s trainee) is a glorified mechanic nicknamed foreign coach which many of us have known since before calling for his sack except his gullible fans who many are suffering from infertility complex.

Please read interview granted by oga Rohr today ahead of our match against Egypt .

If he were to be in charge the flopped Igahalo would have started so also Nwobi , Aina would have been benched etc and then put fear in the players of playing against Almighty Mo Sallah team

Rohr: We missed Osimhen and Ighalo.

    OMG
This performance today from the Super Eagles is extremely encouraging!!!
The boys played their hearts out.
First time in a long time, I felt so proud watching our team stand firm and match up their opponents.

The defense line anchored by William Troost-Ekong meant business today.
They watched Mo Salah like a Lion looking over his Lioness and Cubs!!!

Team selection was key today and Austin Eguavoen got it very right!!!

We Continue like this GAME by GAME and SE will go far in this tournament!!!
The SE has made a big statement today against the Egyptian.
The other teams should be wary and scared right now!!!
How I wish Vico Osimhen made this team and was in this game….Egypt for hear am hot ooo….However, Taiwo Awoniyi did well too!!!
Kelechi Ịheanachọ made the No 10 position look so simple today. He should have scored more thou!!
And This lad called Joe Aribo is such a talented and technical player.
I hope Eberechi Eze is watching how foreign-born players honours their names by represnting their roots!!!

My men of the match – Moses Simon & Wilfred Ndidi.

Oga Eguavoen….Yes Boss… Please keep the boys heads down and lets go there!!!
    UP 9JA!!!

Nigeria go top of Group D. Iheanacho is the bomb. Moses still tormenting the Pharaohs. It was the best game of the tournament so far. The Eagles were aggressive, played with high tempo and panache. I’ve never doubted Eguavoen’s technical astuteness. With some more tactical balance and believe this team should be playing in the final. I hope Omeruo’s injury is not serious. He was the Omeruo of 2013 I saw today. Ekong was just simply MR. Reliable today. Iheanacho, Awoniyi and Moses Simon are a treat to any top team. If only Chukwueze can just come to the party. It is a ballistic attack and it seems we have the defenders too. They look like a very hungry group that wants to prove something. SUPEREAGLES TAKES FLIGHT.

  • Field Marshall. General. Sir Johnbob 2 years ago

For people slating Moses Simon, I hope never to hear another word of complaint about that player because I think he has just made a statement as to why he deserves his place all day long, yes there’s competition but thats healthy for the team.

2- Eguavon has made a very strong statement as well tonight because I can’t see what the new coach can do to improve the sense of team cohesion that the SE displayed tonight with strength and depth in all areas of the pitch and still a lot of options not even in the picture yet… the future really is bright and Green.

3- Now the whole of Africa will sit up and shudder as they take note of what just transpired before their eyes tonight, they would have rocked up expecting to see the same tired old Eagles- a soft touch and target for teams with great acclaim like Egypt, they would have come to see the world famous Salah ripping holes in 9ja’s frail and shaky defence, they’ve come to see Salah “the maestro” smash one in the top bin and stroke home a refined penalty, they want to see Ahmed Trezeguet dance his way in from the right and unleash an unstoppable drive off his left peg which flies past the hapless Okoye and nestles in the far corner but Nay!
They met a SE of 9ja in no mood for nonsense, the boys revved up the press and attack, the Pharaohs had nothing to defend themselves with from the superior force that fell upon them, a beauty of a goal was scored, in the end the boys, our boys, the mighty Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt and it wasn’t even close, they could have still been playing till now and Egypt would still not have scored.

    4) On a final note of caution, the management team need to watch for complacency! It creeps up a lot with our players, they always take their feet of the pedal when/if they are even 1 goal up which is a very dangerous strategy and they started to do that again tonight, the other thing they do when in this mode is just switch off, that’s when you see them loosing the ball as soon as they get it back by playing long into no one and giving the ball straight back to the opposition, indiscipline leading to a lack of concentration resulting in chances for the opponent which also increases the opponents confidence, well this is how games are lost

Guys like Ghana will be besides themselves by now because of their irrational hatred of Nigeria lol
The rest will be quacking in their boots because we just spanked their champion, highest ranked side in Africa Ko Lowest Hill in America Ni, abeg leave story.

And a final word for Fifa or whoever it is in charge of the rankings – Unu better shine unu eyes o!, 9ja’s ranking must improve after tonight. No shouting

  • But some people were saying we should bench or not invite iheanacho… whether regular in club or not.he is one of our best players

Moses was saying – LET MY PEOPLE GO 🙂 🙂 🙂

  • Papafem 2 years ago

I said it here. If you’re familiar with Nigerian football history, our mental toughness when all odds seem conspicuously against us, we tend to raise our game and sit up.

@Dr Drey (respect sir)! He was very sceptical about this team going into this AFCON. Most of his arguments centre around the change of coach and and the time available for Cerezo to make a meanii change.

When I went down the history lane and showed with facts how we did it in the past with loads of problems going into a big tournament, @DrDrey said I should show him a coach that had only two weeks to prepare for a competition of this nature, and come up with something reasonable. I didn’t answer that question because I had a strong feeling that Egu will do that for me. Thank God He did that in flying colours.

While most of Dr. Drey’s arguments are always logical and wisdom laced, I was looking at a Super Eagles who have more than once in their 76 years history defiled logic. And that is where my hope lies. For the upteenth time, I strongly believe this that team, despite the odds, will make us proud.

On another note, there are three things I noticed in today’s match.

    1. Austin Eguaveon has in a short time turned our wingers from inverted attacking forwards to crossers of the ball. Moses Simeon, a player Genot Rohr made look so bad to many of us by misuse or overuse, was a great exponent of the wing play. This gave us widhth and depth, allowing our strikers to set themselves up for good scoring opportunities. The only goal we scored today came from that fantastic tactic. Kudos to Egu.

    2. Our transition from defence to attack was spot on. Aribo played a vital role here, so did our strong and pacy wingers and full backs. Committing more men upfront while we attack at neck-reak pace distabilized the Egyptians. Even when our opponents were pressing for openings,it looked like all we needed was to retrieve the ball, and our attacking beauty would come play again. That’s a great departure from GR’s era. And now, changing Genot Rohr is begining to make sense to me. Many thanks to Egu.

    3. Our defence was very solid. They did a good job on Sallah. I noticed a lot of improvement in Ekong’s play and the way he launched attack with those precise long passes was so commendable. And this had a lot to do with the number of men that fell back to defend when under pressure. It gave the deputy captain a lot of confidence to play his game unlike before he always struggled when left a lone to do the job. Again, kudos to Egu.

Finally, I love the energy, the power and pace Ejuke brought into the game. He was more visible than Chukwueze. However, someone should tell him to be less selfish. The shots he slammed into Egyptian goalkeeper were needless. On each occassion, there were players in better positions to receive the ball. That would have given us that insurance goal to reduce the tension that came the pressure the Egyptians piled us towards the end of the match.

In general, I really need to commend the team for rising to the occasion. And I do hope we will go far in the competition. We have definitely made a statement.

I was so scared when Egypt demanded for a penalty.. such errors should be avoided in the next game. if the referee had gone to the screen to have a look it could have been a penalty, because Simon fell to the ground with his hands on the feet of the Egyptian player.. probably the referee was trying to avoid another Ghana vs South Africa drama

  • Ndubest 2 years ago

Rohr stories are becoming boring. Hes gone for good lets face the future with positive mind. We started well and may do very well in this tournament. We have reached the last 4 in 15 of last 17 afcon. I wonder why people are writing us off. We put in a solid performance today by so doing we have made big statement. I want to watch cote’voire, mali and tunisia. Based on the performances of the teams that had played nigeria is a strong contender. This may just be our year.

  • Moses was BALLING today.. I was so surprised, because normally na rubbish crosses and losing possession of the ball.. I believe coach egu had to completely wipe away the influence of rohr on this team and we saw the finished product today.. Up eagles!!!

  • Guys need to take it easy on our bench. Someone said we dont have a bench but I dont agree. Most of these players are playing together for the first time and are still getting used to each other. With time they will understand each other better and we will reap the reward.
Lets be patient with the team.
I suspect If the team wins its next game, the coach will give some of the fringe players a chance to start in the last group game. Then we will be able to properly assess if the team has a bench or not. Until then lets enjoy this victory and continue to support the team.
Its ended Sudan 0 vs 0 Guinea Bissau

Shame on Rhor and his supporters. I hope they bow their heads in shame. It’s not just about the fact that we won today’s match. It’s about how the team played and this is what we had been clamoring for years but Rhor supporters were always attacking anyone that criticized their tin god.Imagine the hogwash comments the old fashioned mechanic made today just to proved that he is truly a clueless dumbass and i hope his supporters can come out and defend him as they used to. Today we could all see that the difference is so clear. You can’t give what you don’t have. Life is garbage in and garbage out (GIGO) . I just hate the fact that these bunch of corrupt NFF members knew all along that our local coaches could do the job better but because of how much they keep stealing our money through their foreign coach scam they wouldn’t do the right thing.if it were not the case why do they always employ dead ass foreign coaches with wack track records? Rhor was a big scam and NFF wouldn’t have sacked him if they were still benefiting as much as they used to.Rhor is a fraudster just like his fellow criminal NFF president and members that need to be arrested and investigated. Congratulations to Naija

  • We need to retain Cerezo, we will see after more matches or winning Afcon. Pinnick should not deceive us with White skin. His I consulted Mourinho or Wenger gimmick should be generally ignored by fans. Those guys may even not be able to coach a national team successfully. I guess there must be a protest after the nations cup if the team keeps playing like this. I have not enjoyed super eagles football in a long while. This display is like that of 94 golden generation.

  • Proudly 9ja 2 years ago

Kudos to Eguavoen and his team once again. Every single player used today performed their duties excellently well. I don’t get why some people are saying chukwueze didn’t play well today, he was awesome and did his job with aplomb. He was not only tracking back to help Aina (who was fantastic by the way), anytime iheanacho and awoniyi goes to press the egyptian CDs, chukwueze tucks into the middle to help deny elneny and the Egyptian midfielders the ball. He did more defensive work today for the team than usual which is a good tin. Also he didn’t get as much service to drive at the defense like he normally does. Also he was playing to the coach’s instruction to not duel too long on the ball, to release it and move to space. He tired the left back of Egypt making ejuke’s job of outpacing the LB easy.

Some people also said ejuke was selfish, personally I disagree. The 2 chances he got there was no way he could square the ball or have a cutback as there were Egyptian bodies in the box who could have easily intercepted the ball. Moreover as a forward if u have a chance on goal and with the ball on your preferred foot, the logical tin to do is take a crack. We would have been saying what awesome goals those were had they gone in. To meet he (ejuke) played well afterall if u no play lottery u can’t win.

Also some weren’t impressed by Nwakali, the boy was brought in late to add body to the midfield and he did his job. He was even the one that initiated ejuje’s 2nd chance with a neat 1-2 to set ejuke off. I don’t know what people expected of him for the time he was on the pitch for. To me he did the job Eguavoen asked him which I believe was to disrupt the egyptians from possessing the ball in the midfield. He tracked back, tackled and did a yeoman job.

Finally, Sadiq, some said they weren’t too impressed. We are using thesame eyes we view osimen with to judge our forwards which isn’t fair. Awoniyi and Sadiq are different players from Osimen. Awoniyi played tirelessly today with him and iheanacho constantly pressing, by the time Sadiq came in iheanacho had tired out so the pressing wasn’t as effective as it was in the 1st half. If a player like olayinka had been brought in alongside Sadiq, our pressing game would have been better as we would have had 2 fresh players to press the CBS of Egypt.

For eguavoen please don’t get carried away by this victory, don’t be complacent bcos as u are getting praises now as soon as u loose a game, the knives are going to be out again. Go back and watch the match again with ur team and analyze areas u and d team need improvement, there are areas that the team needs to work on fir sure. Good luck again and well done, we are all solidly behind u and ur team. Just my opinion tho

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Proudly 9ja… solid analyses. I agree with all you said… Lol. Some friends have gone really quiet… did you notice?

    • Ejuke will learn,I trust the coach will help him work on his final ball, this was a clear fault. It is not up for argument even.
Moses Simon who was beautiful in attack today, knows he will still fine tune his final ball. In this system you must run,run as a winger, then supply good deliveries.

I like your take on the others. I love that Nwakali boy,a good option off the bench– we can see how the coach preferred him to Iwobi in that match for the middle of the park.
We should win the second match then,I wish with that cushion the coach will allow Nwakali start the 3rd match. Una go see football.

It is only the first match with a new coach they would improve.

Thanks @DE-STAR for your kind words. At the end like I oft say here; we dont get paid for our opinions. Its just borne out of our passions as SE supporters.

    What did we learn yesterday?
For me, its the fact that we have never lacked the MATERIALS. The talent and quality has always been there. The only MISSING link since post 2018’WC qualifiers and those double headers against BRAZIL and UKRAINE has been COACHING!

    Wront tactics
    Wrong deployment of personnel.

    That’s all

You all will recall me almsot screaming my lungs out (literary) wondering why a MOSES SIMON will play RWB agaijst CAR and AINA will be gkued to the bench?

Also I wondered how COLLINS will keep SANUSI on the bench

Well, TGBTG all that is in the past now.

SE should on the strength pf yesterday run over SUDAN and GUINEA BISSAU.The players would have had more training sessions and real match experience by the second game to improve cohesion and decision making in the final third.

    Good luck SE

  • As if Rohr has never use Aina and some other players that played before. He deployed them based on the formations he wanted to use then. U can celebrate and jubilate to high heaven but also remember that it’s only the first match and it was against a very poor Egyptian side who offered nothing much but that doesn’t stop one from saying kudos to the players and the coaching crew for achieving a great result in a match everyone thought will be difficult though. Try to be economical with the truth even though u won’t accept today’s victory shows the work rohr has been doing because 98% of the players were his take it or leave it. Wishing eagles all the best as nothing has been won yet.
