Mali End D’Tigers’ Hopes Of Qualifying For Paris 2024 Olympic

Nigeria’s D’Tigers will not be at next year’s Paris Olympics after losing to Mali, in their second and final Group A game at the 2024 FIBA men’s pre-qualifying Olympic event on Tuesday.

D’Tigers went into the game on the back of their opening game loss to Senegal on Monday.

But it was another loss for the Nigerian men’s team as they fell 77 – 68 to Mali inside the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

The result means Senegal and Mali have qualified for the semi-finals of the six-team competition.

  • Very typical case of “the effect of inadequate preparation”. However, would we learn from it? I doubt…

Meanwhile pulse sports mooted they are watching if osimhen would be barred from participating in the nations cup for castigating NFF in the falcons brouhaha.

Like if oparanozie was ostracized for 4 years for the same offense (protesting non payments), would osimhen be likewise punished?

Our female basketball seems to have recovered swiftly from the destructive wake of Wazza Dazzler.
The men however are still struggling. It will take some time to undo all the damage that has been done.

    • One wonders what our sports administrators gain by destroying the very foundations we manage to build. They killed the morale of our Basketballers as they fought themselves over positions and deprived our them the lifetime opportunity of going to the world cup. Plans are in top gear to destroy the Super Falcons. Our age group sides are virtually dead. We are simply reaping the fruits of our refusal to do the right things. When will NFF pay wages of players and coaches as at when due? The same story again and again and again. Our pitches? Like…..they don’t watch international football. Bunch of incompetent people.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.

We shouldn’t always get away with our anyhowness all in the name of “Nigerian Spirit”

A team that once defeated USA and Argentina suddenly began a downward spiral since that incompetent dunce of a sports minister started getting his filthy hands involved in NBBF affairs just b4 the Tokyo Olympics, now being defeated by even Mali on home court.

The NBBF should go back and reconcile with all those whom that satanic minister has offended, including our former coach Mike Brown and start working towards bringing all the lost sheep back into the fold.

We can’t reach the semis of Afrobasket, we can’t reach the semis of Afrocan, now we cannot even qualify from the group stages of a 6 team olympic qualifying tournament…????

Honestly, some people do not deserve to rest In peace.

And the Dare went scot free. No house committee to call him for questioning. No presidency issuing a query. I’m also surprised at how the NBBF ghosted the badly offended players and coaches of D’Tigers. They simply relied on “oh, we have the talent. No player can hold the country to Ransome.” Well, if it worked for the women, it won’t work for the men because men’s BB in Africa is by far more competitive. It’s a big shame how various MDAs in Nigeria have been messing around with our youths under the full glare of those who have different oversights. And tomorrow, someone will wake up and say Nigerian youths are lazy. I’m even hearing the NFF is planning not to renew Waldrum’s contract with Olympic qualifying matches staring at us. As we speak, the Super Eagles have no coach, yet we have an engagement next month. Nigeria….only God knows who curses us.

Some of these myopic administrators are yet to realize that the success of these teams is their own success too. The more competitions these teams qualify for and do well in, the more money, the more sponsors, the more corporate patronage, and everything nice they will get.

        Sports is business…!

But when you have all sorts riff raffs being put in charge of sports, people who cannot see any other opportunities or means other than government funding for sports, they will not but sabotage whatever progress that is being made an the alter of their over bloated egos.

Like I said before, Its good riddance to bad rubbish. We shouldnt keep getting away with our anyhowness and empty boast about having many talents or having Nigerian spirit.

Mike Brown was going to give us a team that would be in the top 5 in the world…..but from those lofty heights, we are now being dumped out of almost every tournament we feature in here in Africa, and even the Olympics (by Mali of all countries) right there on our home courts, thanks to that thing they call Sunday Dare.

        What a shame…!

Imagine we committed all these resources into “developing” Waldrum, but because of their over-bloated egos, the NFF will rather spit him out because he demanded for what was due to him and his players (to start all over again with another greenhorn yes-man) with the qualifiers for the Olympics just in a matter of weeks from now.

That same Waldrum, I’ve read from 3 different sources is now being touted as one of the possible replacements for Antonovsky should the US Soccer Federation decide to hire a new coach for the USWNT for the next world cup cycle.

The earlier the NFF realizes they are not doing anybody but themselves any favors by ensuring they stop pulling down the progress of our national teams, the better for them. We lost well over $20m to their administrative blunders sequel to the 2022 World cup. The Falcons’ participation in this 2023 WWC has fetched them nothing less than $2.5m.

If they like they should press that usual self-destruct button they always press when they feel things are moving too smoothly for us.

Hope you part of that list of those resting in Peace. Oga Dare nothing will do you, you have done your best, let Dr dry go and apply for the position and lets see what he will do better. Yeyenotu. So it is dare that should coach the team abi are they also sharing bed, which is affecting their preparation too. You bring some college players to play for Nigeria and yet you blame the minister, abi na dare go scout players too. With all their gra gra beating USA and Argentina, why dem no reach quarter-finals.

        Illiteracy is a disease…!!!

      • Papafem 1 year ago

Tell me one achievement of Dare while in office and I’ll reason with you straightoff. You know what Dr. DREY is saying is true, but you singled him out for mentioning just because you dont like him. But a million lies can’t destroy a single truth. Dare justified his action to place an embargo on our BB on leadership turmoil. A turmoil he was incompetent as a federal minister to resolve. He said efforts would be to develop the game from the grassroots. And I hope he’s doing it now. Bunch of useless incompetent lots. Let no political affliation or parochial egocentrism becloud our sense judgement. The future of this nation is in our hands

        • Dr. Drey 1 year ago

Hahahaha…please leave that imbecile, he’s not worth your energy. Tens of thousands of him has never and will never be able to move a strand of hair off me.

Trying to make sense of his senseless comments gives people more headaches than his insults.

1 minute, he’s lamenting the use of college students, the next minute he’s calling the NBA stars and coaches Sunday Dare frustrated out of the team “gra gra”. I’ve never seen a more confused fool all my life. Common sense should have told him why he had to go for college students in the first place, when we have players littered in the NBA. But what can we do when common sense is not common…??

Maybe it is him and his family we should have called up to our BB national team instead….LMAOoo

        • Kenneth 1 year ago

Obviously you one of his asslickers, so am not surprised. Maybe you need to ask google what Dare did as sports minister. Or ask your deluded, confused dr dry. Yes illiteracy is indeed a disease, last time i check i was tying french, You will stay behind your laptops throwing stones and not taking time to find out issues. Very funny you mentioned NBBF. Kindly tell us what other options the minister had when their was crises in the house. Abi was it Dare that created crisis in the NBBF, even after calling for meetings to resolve the issue. So he took a decision to prevent further embarrasement to the country. Nigerians i fear una. Have told you Dr dry go and apply for any position in Nigeria and lets what you have to offer
