Mariappa Dreaming Of Wembley Glory

Watford defender Adrian Mariappa says he is dreaming of reaching the FA Cup final with his hometown club. The Hornets are now potentially just 90 minutes away from reaching a first FA Cup final in 35 years after they booked their place in the last four with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Javi Gracia’s side will take on Wolves at Wembley in the last four next month and Mariappa knows better than most what it takes to reach the final, as he was part of the Crystal Palace side that knocked Watford out the last time they reached the semi-finals in 2016.

The 32-year-old went on to feature as a substitute in the final, as Palace were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United. Mariappa admits it was a memorable day to feature in the Wembley showpiece, but he feels it will be even sweeter if he can make it to the final with his hometown club.

“It was a great occasion,” Mariappa told reporters. “But Watford is my hometown club, and anytime I put on the shirt for Watford is a great honour, so obviously playing in the FA Cup has been brilliant for me.”

The former Reading star is also convinced Watford can beat anyone on their day, so they should feel they have a decent chance of claiming what would be their first major piece of silverware. “We’re fully confident that we can beat anyone this season,” Mariappa added.
