McGinn – We Can Survive The Drop

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn says his side can handle the expectations and survive relegation in the Premier League next season. The Villans will return to the top flight for the first time in three years after their relegation to the Championship in 2016.

Dean Smith’s troops won 10 matches in a row to secure a play-offs spot, before then beating Derby County in the final in May. McGinn netted during the 2-1 win at Wembley and he is hoping to retain his spot as Smith strengthens his squad in the coming weeks.

Like Wolves 12 months ago, Villa are expected to compete in the top flight and McGinn is confident he and his team-mates will live up to expectation. “I think we just need to take it the same way we did last year,” McGinn told Sky Sports.

“We took it on a week by week basis and ended up doing well. Obviously, by the size of the club, people will expect us to stay up but it’s not gonna be as easy as that. We’re just going to try and press early on, get results on the board and see what we can do. “It’s a massive jump for us but we know we’re capable of competing and hopefully we can start showing that.”
