NPFL Roundup: MFM Beat Rangers To Go Top Of Group A; Akwa, Enyimba, Rivers United Draw

Mountain Of Fire Ministries Football Club, (MFM) moved to the top of the group A standings of the Nigerian Professional Football League on Wednesday after they edged Enugu Rangers 1-0 in a midweek encounter played Agege stadium , in Lagos reports Completesports.com.

Adeniji Kabir scored the only goal of the encounter in the 23rd minute to hand MFM their second home win of the new season.

MFM now have six points from three games one point ahead of second placed Kwara United who forced Insurance of Benin to a goalless draw.

Nigeria Tornadoes and Remo Stars also played out a goalless draw in Minna just as wasteful Enyimba shared the spoils with Lobi Stars at the Enyimba stadium in Aba. the game ended goalless.

In Katsina,Sheriff Bashir cames off the substitute’s bench to score a late goal for Katsina United as they defeated Wikki Tourist 1-0. It was Katsina United’s first win of the campaign.

At the Akure Township stadium, Sunshine Stars were held to 1-1 draw at home to Rivers United. Fuad Ekelujuoti shot the Owena Whales into the lead five minutes into the second half but parity was restored in the 51st minute through a strike from Wasiu Jimoh.

In the group B NPFL games played also on Wednesday, Akwa United were denied their first win of the season after they drew 2-2 at home to Plateau United. The draw was Akwa United’s second straight draw in three games.

Mfon Udoh shot the Promise Keepers ahead after 19 minutes only for Bernard Ovoke to draw Abdul Makaiba’s men level just before the hour mark.

The Super Eagles fringe player, Udoh restored Akwa United’s lead with seven minutes left to play but just when the home team thought they had secured their first win of the campaign Benjamin Turba popped up with the equalizer for Plateau United.

In Owerri, Go Round suffered their first loss of the campaign losing 1-0 away to Heartland FC. Chinonso Udeh scored for FC Ifeanyi Ubah who defeated Yobe Stars 1-0 to record their second win of the campaign.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors edged Kada City 1-0 to record their first win of the season. Emeka Isaac scored from the spot in the 83rd minute to secure maximum points.

A goal in each half from Usman Musa and Babangida Ibrahim earned Gombe United a 2-0 win over Kano Pillars.
