Mikel Declared Fit, Available For Selection To Face Bafana

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi is in contention to feature for the side in Wednesday’s AFCON 2019 quarterfinal clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, has coach Gernot Rohr has hinted, Completesports.com reports.

Mikel picked up a knee injury in Nigeria’s last Group B match against Madagascar and was initially expected not to feature for the Super Eagles again in the remaining part of the competition as a result of the setback.

But the former Chelsea midfielder has made a quick recovery from the injury, handing the team a big boost ahead of the game.

It is the first time head coach of the team Gernot Rohr will have a full complement of his players available for selection since the start of the competition.

The Super Eagles have battled through ill-health and injuries to key players since they started the second phase of their preparations for AFCON 2019 in Ismaila, Egypt.

“We don’t have any injury worries again. All 23 players are fit for this game which is good for us,” Rohr told a news conference on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles – Bafana Bafana match will hold at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday at 8pm Nigerian time.
