Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor have announced the signing of Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel, reports Completesports.com
Mikel penned a two-year contract with Trabzonspor with the option to extend for a further year.
“A 2 + 1 year agreement was signed with the free captain of the Nigerian National Team, Professional Footballer John Mikel Obi, with one-year option to transfer to our club,”reads a statement on the club’s official website.
Mikel is now the third Nigerian at the club with Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwaekeme already key members of the Trabzonspor side.
The former Chelsea midfielder has been without a club since severing ties with English side, Middlesbrough.
He linked up with Middlesbrough in January after dumping Chinese outfit Tianjin Teda.
The 31-year-old made 19 appearances for Middlesbrough and scored one goal.
Mikel is currently on duty with Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Goodluck brother….
just go pls
I don’t think you deserve to be playing for Nigeria. The Turkey Club may soon realize that they made a big mistakes for hiring Mikel Obi at this time. Mikel coming to play for Nigeria was a bad idea. He is just faking it now. It is time to call it quit and return to your loving family in London.
Obi was said to have been responsible for the painful lose to Madagascar match yesterday.
You ‘re very stupi. Infact, your life is a mistake.
If not that you re very stupid Rdoman, you would’ve known tjat she left thr pitch at 56 mins, yet your super chickens still couldn’t equalize.
@Edo man not just mikel but d whole team including coaches
When did Mikel snap this picture? I hope its not during the afcon that he had time to be negotiating contract. If this pic was snapped during afcon then i wont be surprised at his poor performance cos contract negotiations take time and energy and it can easily distract a player from putting his best during a tournament.
That photo was most probably shot in a hotel room. Look at the setting, it is quite different from What we usually see in other ‘sign on’ photo shoots.
I wonder why you are the first to raise our attention to it. Mikel’s mind was in Turkey while his body was in Egypt during that game.
