England legend Gary Neville has tipped France as the clear favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2026, describing their attacking lineup as a level above the rest of the tournament.
Speaking after France’s dominant 3-0 victory over Sweden, Neville noted that their attacking players (including Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé, and Bradley Barcola) will cause nightmares for every single defender at this tournament.

He added that he simply does not know how teams can stop their attacking prowess.
“It’s a real statement (beating Sweden). We know they’re the favourites for the tournament, but what we saw was precision, devastation.
“I always look at games from a defensive perspective – those four (attacking players: Mbappe, Olise, Dembele and Barcola) that started the game will cause nightmares for every single defender at this tournament and I don’t know how you stop that.
“It’s a level above. Brazil won in the last minute, Germany and the Netherlands went out. They’re just showing everybody in this round how to do it. Everything they do is emphatic. It’s brilliant to watch and it’s the best performance so far in the tournament and they know they’re favourites.
“They’re so far ahead of every other team in terms of level.”

The French have been cutting through teams almost at will so far, beating Senegal 3-1, Iraq 3-0 and Norway 4-1 before this latest romp.
Up next for them is Paraguay, who knocked out Germany on Monday night but will be distant second favourites when they meet the relentless French side.
