On 30 June 2017, Onyekuru joined Everton for £7 million and was immediately sent on loan to Anderlecht.

Having failed to ever secure a work permit in the UK, Onyekuru joined AS Monaco on a permanent transfer on 12 August 2019 on a five-year deal.

He made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in a 3–0 friendly win over
Togo on 1 June 2017 and after a strong 2018–19 club season with Galatasaray, Onyekuru was included in Nigeria’s final 23-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

On his part Nwakali started his career at the Diamond Football Academy and after his performances at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, in which he won the Golden Ball Award, he signed with English Premier League side Arsenal.

At Arsenal he was sent out on loan to MVV Maastricht, VVV Venlo, Porto B before finally leaving Arsenal on 2 September 2019, to join Spanish Segunda División side SD Huesca on a three-year deal.

Nwakali was named to the provisional squad for the Golden Eaglets side before the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup but did not make the final squad.

He eventually captained the Golden Eaglets to win the 2015 U-17 World Cup.
